Celebration Vault Tracks Does anyone know what's happening with these songs that were played at the Prince Celebration thing a few months back? They released the alternate version of 7 and that All A Share Together Now but what are they doing with the rest? There was some really interesting looking stuff amongst those that I don't see getting included on any Super Deluxe Edition.
I know that with the Diamonds & Pearls set coming in October they're unlikely to release any more vault tracks between now and then. So that begs the question, what's going on with those other songs they played? Is there anyone we could ask who might actually answer? |

I would say those Vault tracks will be part of the first Vault Series along with 7 Remix & All A Share Together Now.
My guess is that this Vault Series Vol.1 will be the next box set probably scheduled for release in the spring of 2024.
Let's if i'm right [Edited 8/28/23 6:54am] |

I'm really not loving the idee for thrown together vault tracks in some 'Vault series' I'd rather have them presented chronological in a vault series. I think in 2024 they'll market and push Purple Rain 40 as much as possible so I don't think they'll release anything in 2024 besides that. Maybe a Purple Rain single or era release for RSD to but that's about it.

I can see where you and others would have a problem with this. However, I actually think it's a good idea for a potential Vault Series to pull from different eras. And I'll tell you why; Not all Prince albums will get the Super Deluxe treatment. So outtakes from those albums should account for the bulk of the Vault Series. But seeing as most of those outtakes would likely be from newer albums, with the older albums more likely to get Super Deluxe Editions, then that would limit the potential sales/interest of the Series by alienating a lot of casual and old school fans who are only interested in his 80s stuff. By peppering a few 80s outtakes that don't make the cut in the deluxe editions (like Lust U Always or Xtraloveable) amongst the more modern tracks, it ensures that each Volume would have something that would appeal to everyone. Is it the ideal way of selling a Vault Series? No. Your chronological order idea makes more sense to someone who plans on buying it all. But a scattergun approach like mixing eras and genres might make more business sense because pretty much every Prince fan will have at least a couple of songs on each Volume that they really want. |

in theory i'm not opposed to this as long as #1 all songs are provided with context and well written liner notes and #2 at some point in the future, they are included in an actual set for whatever era they came from. |

I just want to hear as much of the vault as possible before I die (hopefully not for a few decades yet!), so as much as I understand that Prince's music should be curated and released in a coherent way - I also just wanna hear da funk asap! [Edited 8/28/23 13:23pm] |

I’d assume there’s no real plan for those tracks. They were just showing off some nice tracks they’d found. Hopefully they’ll turn up on SDEs, or other releases in the future. I’d also assume Warner and Sony would also be involved. |

This is honestly the best-case scenario what you wrote here.
I mean, look, as much as the hardcore super academic fans would prefer proper chronological sequence and boxes, they've already shown they dgaf about that and are only going to release SDE's for the "big sellers" based on the most accurate sales data from 1991 for our pop star hero... the Prince of pop, if you will.
And that's why yours is the best-case, but I srsly doubt they'd ever even do your hypothetical, much less SDE's for the mid-to-late-90s/00s/10s.
I kind of like, don't want to burst everyone's fantasy bubble here... but this "Vault Series Vol. 1". You got it already. It was the two tracks. And just because it was released with "Vol. 1" in the title doesn't mean anything, it's like when bands release compilations or albums with "Vol. 1" in the title and never follow-up. It's just a title. There's no planned box, there's no planned Vol. 2, there's no expansion of Vol. 1. That was "Vault Series". Enjoy.

Why is "All A Share Together Now" not written in Prince style like "2gether"... "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972) |

That could be written by anyone, meaning; engineers...
What did Prince wrote on the lyric sheet, i think that is far more accurate, no? "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972) |
