I believe Venus de Milo is a work of art, a famous statue or painting. Maybe he felt his instrumental was an equivalent to that work of art.
BTW is anyone else diggin' those newer instrumentals. I'm speaking of "Tokyo" & "Osaka" in particular.

Prince got the title for "Venus De Milo" from a Miles Davis album.Miles also has a song called "Venus De Milo". As to "Alexa De Paris, sence "Under The Cherry Moon" was shot on the French Rivera he wanted to go with the whole french thing.

Venus De Milo was never a B side - which is why it never appeared on the B-Sides. However,if you buy the CD of Parade you'll find it where it's always been.

The Venus de Milo statue was found on the island of Milo in 120-130 BC. The Greek name for Venus (the goddess of love)was Aphrodite. Mary Sharon mentions Venus in her monologue about how much of peasant Christopher is.
"Alex de Paris" in French translates roughly to 'Alexa of Paris'. So who was this Alexa?

"Venus de Milo" is indeed the ancient greek statue that can be seen in the UTCM-movie. I guess it's in the scene when Christopher drinks the countless glasses of champagne on the veranda. And the club itself where Christopher works as pianist is called "Venus de Milo", too. A composition of the same title exists from Miles Davis, but the two songs musically do have nothing in common.
"Alexa de Paris" is the trademark of a french designer from the 30's or 40's of the 20th century. He was famous back in the days. "Don't hate me 'cuz I'm fabulous!"

It makes sense in the fact that the clothing designs were very central to the style of the film. Do you know where we can get pics of those clothing designs?

I've always thought that Alexa De Paris would make a GREAT song for an ice skater (like Michelle Kwan) to use in one of their routines.
Dont'cha think??? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
