Any of you listen to mostly nothing but Prince music? Was recently told by grandma of all people that I need to "broaden my musical tastes" and that I was listening to too much Prince music I do listen to other artists/bands sometimes Such as Michael Jackson, citizen cope, awolnation,Madonna I listen to the TIME too but that's another way to listening to Prince Listening to Prince never gets old to me It's like a movie you seen a hundred times, you always find one small detail that you hadn't noticed and it amazes you I am still discovering new Prince music to this day And by reqding the purple rain era sessions book you kinda observe the songs differently the next time you hear them knowing the new details of certain songs For example the song "my drawers" was written by Prince in a very short amount of time and that happens to be my favorite track off the ice cream castle album Morris day was suppose to write it or help but didn't cooperate with prince that day

At one point in my life, yes. I listened to endless prince.
Today, more the oppposite. Its not that i wouldnt like to listen to more prince, but that my tastes are quite broad (partly due to prince actually) so i like lots of other stuff too, so i pick and choose the prince i listen to carefully. But when i see stuff listed on the underrated boots thread for example i do want to go and listen to lots more prince again. [Edited 6/27/23 22:43pm]

I notice since he transitioned I mostly put on stuff he wrote or produced for other artists, probably because I completely overlooked that section of his discography before he passed.

When I first started properly listening to his music I went about 4 months of listening to nothing but Prince. It was almost therapeutic in a way. I don't listen to him nearly as much as I did but having said that, he features pretty heavily in all my playlists. And I will argue that nobody has ever or will ever write love songs the way he does.

There are still side projects etc i dont know all that well. In a way i like that theres stuff to get familiar with But prince now seems like a musical zone all by itself, like if im listening to prince, its totally on its own terms, its princeworld, not easily connected to other music. Which might sound weird, but i think thats just his personality, and how big it was in his songs, you have to want to get in that space.

When I used to scrobble, it was consistently 25% Prince each month, year on year. And at least twice the next highest played artist.

These days, I listen to Prince almost exclusively. I have broad tastes in music, but he can satisfy them because his catalogue is so eclectic. Whatever I’m in the mood for (rock, funk, pop, etc.), I can find it in his music. And within those genres, he explored sub-genres. For instance, his rock ranged from Bambi to ICNTTPOYM to Colonized Mind. All rock, but all completely different styles of rock. In short, I can never get bored with Prince. Outside of Prince, I listen to Rusted Root, Sting/The Police, Lyle Lovett, Terence Trent Darby, The Talking Heads, Barenaked Ladies, The Bee Gees, Earth Wind & Fire, to name a few.

Oh no. There's way too much music to only listen to Prince. Recently I've been listening to alot of 80's Hip Hop and electro albums that I got from a huge record sale (Egyptian Lover, World Class Wreckin' Cru, etc.).

I listen to alot of different artists but by far my most listened to is Prince. Probably about 60%. The lack of new Prince music over the past couple of years has made me lusten more to other artists. I am finding some of my most loved Princecalbums are starting to feel over played now. I need some fresh Prince. Something BIG Is Coming.

I listen a lot of different music, experimental, concrete musique, classical, jazz, italian folk or some pop, sometimes rap or trap. Or Prince. For me Prince is not a music flavour, it is a different thing. I listen music or Prince.

There was a time where I listened to nothing but Prince- when it was all new to me. Nowadays I'd guess it's about 5-10% Prince. He is like a genre unto himself.

I have way too many favorite artists to listen to Prince exclusively or near exclusively, but I will go through a phase once or twice a year where I listen to Prince obsessively for a few weeks. I was having one of those phases back in May and early June but the estate's incompetence at Celebration and total silence since then killed my enthusiasm

Since last year, it's been only Prince and his associates. Before that I listened to almost everything.

Where would it have even gone, though? Purple Rain? Parade? surely not Around the World in a Day, that fits even worse than "She's Always in My Hair" fanmz are always advocating to take a spot on there. Just because you guys dislike a certain record doesn't mean the overall concept should be jetissoned just to crowbar in your favs. [Edited 7/2/23 14:19pm]

Damn, I'm revisting a lot of music from the 70s--that was tha bomb decade for music. And Prince had to hear what I heard. I'm old but he was older than me. Still can't believe I went to a Jazz Fest yesterday (after 4 years) and a local legend Fillmore Slim was still singin' the blues at age 89?!!! You go, Fillmore Slim. And then Buddy Guy, who is supposedly on his last tour. Buddy Guy is in his late 80s. The last time I saw him was about six years ago: he was playing guitar behind his back and with his teeth!! Okay, showmanship...but he was so great he earned it! Even Santanta showed up do a couple of songs with Buddy Guy! Love the longevity of some of these under-rated artists!
