Prince mentioned in Fall Out Boy's updated cover of We Didn't Start The Fire

As the title.

It's not a prominent mention but he's in there. https://youtu.be/2LkVKCWL0U4 since it won't let me embed the video.

I always thought Billy Joel should've updated that song. It's been thirty-three years since the original and so much has happened. FOB did a decent job. Some of the syllables could've been finessed a bit, tho. Like instead of drawing out "Miiiichael Jackson dies," they could've said "Michael Joseph Jackson dies" or "King of Pop Jackson dies."

Also, "Prince, Bowie and the Queen dies" would've been better.

Also, one nitch that bugs me is that it's not in order of happening. Joel's went year by year. FOB sounds more like a random list of things... which both are, but it's out of order.

I had to turn it off. Not only is it out of order, but some of them "Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man" is not a world-changing, newsworthy event.

Oh well. Maybe Billy Joel will be prompted to write a Part II after hearing this, although I think this is one of the songs that he doesn't hold in high regard.

Yes.

Very lazy arrangement, as mentioned already.

Production was ok, though.

Nice version.

Nice new lyrics.

But never was much into US power high school pop.

Next.

The original mixed serious politics with popular art. Iron Man started what I presume is the biggest film franchise in history, and has dominated cinema for 15 years.

It's not a bad attempt. The problem is less what's included and more that isn't chronological like the original.

This got Fall Out Boy some decent trending press on a bunch of my different websites. I would have put them in the "where are they now" pile with the likes of your Chumbawamba's and Hoobastank's before this, but clearly they got some sleeper jams on TikTok that kept their mainstream viability to this moment of resurgance at least.
