If Volume 1 is only 2 tracks, it's gonna be a while before we get to the bottom of the Vault lol eek

I would prefer my music release on a well put together physical package.

However for me time is of the essence. The fastest means of getting me as much music as possible is going to be digitally.

I can organise it myself.

Oh, I forgot this oen in my list: one of the dozen unreleased tracks they played at the Celebration was a cover of an Aretha Franklin song, and yet this wasn't even mentioned during the listening session.

but who decides what's filler or terrible songs? this is just a taste thing.
I would rather see chronological releases with massive liner notes detailing the recordings and all.

But that will inevitably mean that less commercially successful eras of his career will have less attention. Why not use the Purple Rain era (for example), to aid the release of a great song from 2002 that otherwise might not see the light of day soon or ever?

Then they could atlternate between the releases. Like release a massive outtake set with liner notes and all for Controversy and 3 months later the same for Planet Earth, then 3 months latr Purple Rain and 3 months later The Chocolate Invasion etc. linking a later era or earlier era song no matter how good they are (again a taste thing) on a different era album is just weird. I still think the original ICNTTPOYM on SOTT SDE doesn't belong on there and should have been on a Dirty Mind set.
Why wouldn't they put the same amount of effort in albums that sold less? What if the Chocolate Invasiuon has more ouutakes then Parade? it's been probven time and time again that Princefans like to throw away money on the most cheap of things without much care (see Celebration 2023)

I've always wondered if it was a cover.

Thanks.

This makes sense to me. If the plan is to SDE every album they're going to have to do 2 or 3 each year. Just to get through them all. There is no reason they couldn't alternate older and more recent albums.

It's mostly subjective, but sometimes not? "Pink Cashmere" is glorious. "Pope" is filler. Fun, but filler.

This is like when Susan Rogers says "Play in the Sunshine" was designed filler. Like you couldn't be more right "technically" yet couldn't be more wrong literally.

Is that the one where she said something along the lines of; he would have a handful of "core" songs, then build an album around them?

I don't think "filler" is necessarily synonymous with bad or worthlessness. I like "Pope" and "Play In The Sunshine". But if someone said "Why is SOTT a great album" I wouldn't immediately point to that song.

"Why do people like Graffiti Bridge?" Joy, Question, Elephants... Some songs just stand out.

I'd rather the estate kept songs in context as best they could. If a PR song was updated circa 2009 then sure, put it on the 20ten SDE. However I'd hate to see 2 or 3 PR songs dropped on a CD full of 2009 outtakes just to try and boost the sales from a less commercially successful period.
