Thunder

If Prince had released this as a new song today, would you view it as overtly religious?

Loved it then, love it now! I don't have any problems with Prince's religious material.

co-muthafuckin'-sign. I love this song to death. I'm not a Christian, but I love a lot of Prince's religious songs: The Everlasting Now, Everywhere, The Cross, etc.

IMO - there's a big difference with P's previous religious offerings; I wish U Heaven, God, etc than the new JW stance.

it's the way it's being put accross. previously he gave his view, and it was positive for him and that's all he was saying. now it seems he puts his views accross from above. what he's saying is right, no argument, no discussion. it's kind of feels forced upon you.

I don't think I would like it as much if it were released now and I would see it as overly religious. I love the song and I like the religious stuff when presented in conjunction (on the same album at least) with sexuality.

I was wondering the same thing, listening to the Lovesexy
album this afternoon. I don't know, perhaps.

Love the song though, that

like rain, falling on a windowpane
tears came 2 my eyes when eye asked her name
made me holler when it finally came, sayin
only the children born out of me will remain

is the best part of the song. Love it, gonna put it on
right now.

I was thinking the same, Isten. Afterall, how much of the Lovesexy album is non-religious in content?

thunder is underrated.

tho the only time i heard it on radio was when the local commercial radio station's Black Thunder's (vans that go around the city giving away free coke & chips 'n' shit)
& they would play prince vocals singing "THUNDER" as they cut 2 mention where they have stopped.
(fellow aussies know what im talking about anyway)
lol

his religius stuff like Everlasting Now,Thunder (tho i dont hear religious,i think sexy, romantic, sensuality)
& such r just really happy & make u feel good about urself.
thats a good thing

I just wish I could get my hands on that long version!! The one played during the Billboards Joffrey Ballet tour. It's absolutely gorgeous!

I don't think it is the "religious" nature of songs past and present that bothers people - all that used to shine through was the positivity and that is cool - the rpoblem with him at the mo' is that it has changed from "I have God" to "YOU must have God"...and that feels oppressive and not poitive at all. That said the music on TRC is 5star - just wish I could get a copy without all the god voice on it - it is embarrassing

neither do I because that's part of his persona... No religion in his song would mean something crually lacking...

Actually I dont look at this song as a over-religious song.. I think its a cool song, lyrics and music.. I dont think its religous really.. of course just a little with all the "Promise to c jesus in the morning light" but still I dont look at it as a religious song.. I think its cool!! - Even though he'd release this as a single (in 2003) his hardcore fans know how religious the man is and we wouldn't say anything, just like the song..
