How much did his catalog sell for?

Queen's catalog is selling for $1.1 billion.
Stevie Nicks got$80 million.
Bob Dylan sold his for high nine figures.

Did Prince's "family" get bamboozled?
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

They let themselves get bamboozled, that's also why Lonny and Spicer are now in there.
If they took the time to get educated on how the business worked they could have gotten alot more.

Oh for crying out loud, LEARN about what these deals mean instead of spouting nonsense.

.

Two question: who owns Prince's publishing? Who owns the rights to his masters?

.

Until you can answer that, don't post this conspiratorial nonsense.

By the way, Primay Wave took in 2020 a majority stake in the songwriting catalog of

Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac.

So not 100% of her catalogue.

-

In Prince's case :

"The largest single interest holder of Prince’s estate is independent music publisher and talent management company Primary Wave, as RS reported in July 2021.

At the time, Primary Wave had just bought out 100 percent of the interest of Prince’s brother Omarr Baker, having previously bought 90 percent of sister Tyka Nelson’s interest and 100 percent of half-brother Alfred Jackson’s.

That deal gave the company a stake in the royalty from Prince’s masters, the magazine added."

When you say, "having previously bought 90 percent of sister Tyka Nelson’s interest"

So does each year does Tyka get 10% of what ever the Estate grossed that year??? confused

So Bizzie and TrivialPursuit, as our resident "experts", rather than using this thread as another opportunity to criticise Prince fans:

What do you think the various deals mean?

How do they compare to the deals done by other estates?

10% of her portion. There are 6 portions.

10% of her portion. There are 6 portions.

And not of the gross takings but only of the rights to distributions to owners by the estate after costs and taxes.

That ain't Bert/Bart. He'd not have gone that route.

But I have a decent idea who is behind that angsty moniker.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

What makes you so sure? Bort/Bizzie stoppped posting around the end of last year. Bizzie/Bort started posting around the beginning of this year. The writing style (or abusive manner) is almost an exact match!

You ain't wrong. But I don't think it's either of them. Esp not Bart. I'm sure they're loving the attention, so let's move on.

JayZ and Beyonce and Sean Combs havent sold (or tried to sell) their catalogs yet, and who even knows if they are truly happy with their current deals...ask the veteran artists that are still alive, or the estates of those who have passed on, or were mysteriously murdered if they were ripped off and bamboozled. .like Prince, Sam Cooke, ANY Motown Artist from The Temptations to Rick James, Michael Jackson, Donny Hathaway, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, etc...those artists created miliions and millions of dollars for their labels and distributors, only to get a relatively small and disproportionate cut of the profit pie...
