Films and actors who inspired Prince I recently discovered the "scantily clad" woman on the ATWIAD cover is Clara Bow from the movie Hoopla. Once you see the original, it's undeniable. I think I've heard Jill Jones say it's meant to depict her, and while I don't doubt that, if it is, it's meant to depict her posing like Clara Bow in Hoopla.
What other film and actor references has Prince used? I can think of a couple, the Jane Fonda movie Barbarella, and Caligula as an inspiration for Gett Off.
Any others? | |

Love that list. I also like that the colorful mountains in the background of ATWIAD is a naked woman, anatomically correct right down to the nipple!

1980 flick, "The Idol Maker" with Ray Sharkey and Olympia Dukakis was said to have a profound effect on Mr. Nelson.

While not exactly profound, he calls himself "The Purple Yoda". Batman goes without saying. Or it did, till I said it. IIRC the Prince: Alter Ego comic book. Originally planned to depict him as an Indiana Jones type character, but Prince felt he was more of a James Bond. It's well documented that he often had Finding Nemo playing on a big screen at PP for some reason. Mr Goodnight mentions Chocolat. He was a big fan of Salma Hayek. The Good Life has the lyric "La Dolce Vita" was the knob that turned me on Marcello Mastroianni Italian Mac comin' on strong".
