Your Favourite Song From Each 90s Album? The 1990s was my least favourite era for Prince's music. Arrangements became overblown and overproduced. Lyrics sounded a little more laboured and trite. Everything seemed a little less carefree and a bit less... weird. Having said that, each album had at least a few good songs, so I'm intrigued as to what all your favourite tracks are from each of his 90s albums. Here's mine. Where compilations contain previously-released music, I've chosen my favourite from only the tracks which hadn't been previously released. Graffiti Bridge - Thieves In The Temple (would have picked Joy In Repetition but that and everything else, bar Thieves, was recorded in the 80s, although if allowed to include a B-side, I might have included ‘Loveleft, Loveright’ instead) Pandemonium - Pandemonium (very late ‘89 so I’ll let it in because I like it even though might not be much input by Prince into writing it - the other Prince penned tracks are from much earlier in the 80’s) Diamonds And Pearls - Gett Off - And God Created Woman Gold Nigga - Johnny (with Black M.F. In The House a close 2nd) The Hits/The B-Sides - Peach (Power Fantastic is good but is really a mid-80’s song; similarly Pink Cashmere is from 1988) 1-800 New Funk - Love Sign Come - Papa (I love the guitar tone on this, not sure about the last bit of the song though) Exodus - Get Wild The Gold Experience - Dolphin Girl 6 - She Spoke 2 Me (would have picked Erotic City but that’d be breaking my own rules) Chaos And Disorder - I Like It There Emancipation - Face Down Crystal Ball - Days Of Wild (yeah some great 80s stuff, like Crystal Ball and Last Heart but they ain’t from the 90s, rules is rules) The Truth - Animal Kingdom Kamasutra - Kamasutra (can’t say I have listened to it much, so no real strong preference from this release) Newpower Soul - Wasted Kisses The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale - When The Lights Go Down Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic - Prettyman (Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic - Beautiful Strange, although this album was released in 2001, so it doesn’t really count, albeit Beautiful Strange was recorded in 1998, so Ok to include in my view) There may or may not be something coming! |
