I notice since he transitioned I mostly put on stuff he wrote or produced for other artists, probably because I completely overlooked that section of his discography before he passed.

I put on other stuff, too, but Prince is always somewhere there in the mix, even if I'm just out and I see something like a Frigidaire logo and then I'm humming "Modernaire" or something, so it's hard to quantify.

When I used to scrobble, it was consistently 25% Prince each month, year on year. And at least twice the next highest played artist.

I listen a lot of different music, experimental, concrete musique, classical, jazz, italian folk or some pop, sometimes rap or trap. Or Prince. For me Prince is not a music flavour, it is a different thing. I listen music or Prince.

There was a time where I listened to nothing but Prince- when it was all new to me. Nowadays I'd guess it's about 5-10% Prince. He is like a genre unto himself.

Since last year, it's been only Prince and his associates.

Before that I listened to almost everything.

Where would it have even gone, though? Purple Rain? Parade? surely not Around the World in a Day, that fits even worse than "She's Always in My Hair" fanmz are always advocating to take a spot on there. "shouldve kept that one for his self" is a popular sentiment in Prince circles but if he did reality is it wouldn't have fit on any of the projects he had cooking and probably would have sat on a Vault shelf and get dusted off for a new re-belabored version on a 90s or 00s record.

I'm glad he hammered out and put out what he did when he did, regardless of who's singing on the final mix. Plus, whenever he sat on a track and re-worked and "perfected" it they'd invariably become worse and worse with each successive version.

The rawness of "My Drawers" is part of its appeal, and I highly doubt that would be able to persist if he wasn't trying to hammer out 3-4 different projects at once before 1984 concluded.

Damn, I'm revisting a lot of music from the 70s--that was tha bomb decade for music. And Prince had to hear what I heard. I'm old but he was older than me. Still can't believe I went to a Jazz Fest yesterday (after 4 years) and a local legend Fillmore Slim was still singin' the blues at age 89?!!! You go, Fillmore Slim. And then Buddy Guy, who is supposedly on his last tour. Buddy Guy is in his late 80s. The last time I saw him was about six years ago: he was playing guitar behind his back and with his teeth!! Okay, showmanship...but he was so great he earned it! Even Santanta showed up do a couple of songs with Buddy Guy! Love the longevity of some of these under-rated artists!
