Prince offered Vavoom to Mariah Carey ??

Source : https://www.princevault.c...tle=Vavoom

I was today's years old when I learned on Princevault that this song was offered to Mariah and she (obviously) turned it down.

I mean with those lyrics :

With you, I can be an animal
With you, I can get a ride
With you, I don't have to comb my hair
It's true, I just let it fly

Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
(Vavoom)

Let's do like we did when I first met you
If it's cool - this time I'll come inside
(Come inside)
Stop through, we can start in the swimming pool
Ooh wee ooh, this is gonna be the best time

Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom

Black balloons
(Va-voom)
Angel food, and an urge to dare
(Va-voom)
Hotel room, no, I don't care
No
Afternoon, seven days with a tale to share
Va-va-voom, everybody get down, nobody's spared

Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
(Vavoom)

With you (Va-va-voom)
I can be an animal
(Va-va)
With you
(Va-va-voom)
I can get a ride
Come on get a ride baby
(Va-va)

Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va-voom
Va-va
Va-va-voom

I much preferred what turned out to be a fanmade version of the song that leaked before it was officially released, featuring dialogue from a movie (possibly an adult one). The released version was much too sparse and 'clean' sounding in comparison.

It might as well have suited Aerosmith at the time.

Prince sending Mariah "Vavoom" is right in line with him sending Joni Mitchell "Emotional Pump".....LOL! Such an odd choice but I guess you never know unless you ask. "Glitter" had the cover of "Didn't Mean to Turn You On" which was right in line with the 80s vibe. Prince could've given her a funky 80s vault track but....whatever. Good info, thanks for sharing!

I can't believe there are people who think that her cover was better than the original.

One thing, for Prince not liking others to cover versions of his songs…
Just sayin’
Did he do it for the money?
Because I can imagine a Prince song on a Mariah Carey album kinda pays a bit, no?
She sells more (albums) then for instance him giving a new song to someone like Taja Sevelle or Dale for instance…
I’m no expert.. maybe some of y’all are

They have a song called "Line Up" that is not light years away from the sound of Vavoom.

Honestly I don't know what Mariah's issue was; clearly this song would have been her biggest hit to-date, even eclipsing All I Want For Christmas Is You in terms of sheer staying power. Jennifer Lopez couple never knock-off this little ditty!

He didn't like when other artist covered songs he'd already commericiall released. That's not the same thing as him pulling a song from the Vault and offering it to an artist.

In the case of the former, it's someone taking a commodity that Prince had made famous and and trying to profit off it it.

In the latter case, it's about Prince giving an unknown song, not associated with him, to another artist.

It's about the ability to control his music.

I don't think anyone thinks that.

Prince couldn't see Mariah Carey wrote for herself except for a token cover song on each album?
