What do U listen 2 2day?

I want to commemorate the genius of P today by listening to under-appreciated aftershows like

  • the two shows @ The Emporium/London from March 1993 with Eric Leeds,
  • some Paisley Park concerts from the fall of ´95 (the Sept. 8 one with Heaven must be like this & People get ready is maybe the best one),
  • maybe some of the ONA soundchecks and
  • of course a healthy dose of Lovesexy (the Munich aftershow, or maybe on of the american ones?).

What would You suggest?

I don't know all the shows you listed (Munich): I'll look after it.

Emporium (1995): great ones.

I'll listen to official albums: "Parade" of course, Around The World In A Day".

I like the Santa Monica gig from PR tour & the piano session (2/7/1984).

Love so much the "Parade" era all the concerts.

I'll listen to the "1999" SDE as well!

Anyhow, with Prince's music it's a kinda time travel: U can pick (as in a menu) what pleases U.

He was so prolific & gifted...

This is a great way to do it. I also like to do that from time to time. Including the associated artist like Vanity & The Time. So I get lost at 1999 the latest, because it's hours & hours & hours... lol

Good idea! I do it sometimes. How long does it take if we stick to the chronological order? biggrin

I'm not forcing myself to listen to anything, but so far I've been listening to the outtakes on the SOTT SDE set. The "live in the studio" take of "Power Fantastic" is brilliant. As are many of those tracks. Something from Paisley Park 1995 might be next. Good idea! I love those shows.

Just had a look again, Munich is not a Lovesexy aftershow but a SOTT one. Soundboard recording from Park Cafe, May 21, 1987.

I drove to work listening to the last show of his I attended. Manchester Academy 22nd Feb 2014. Reminiscing being a few metres away from his mic with a big stupid smile chanting 'must be something in the water they drink.'

.

I'd give my right ball to go back to that night. Was like an out of body experience

Reckon I'll throw on some stuff I rarely visit from For You and Prince and just appreciate how good he was at that young age, even if the songs aren't among my favs. Also feeling like going over of some The Truth tracks too. Some great writing on there. Live shows like you suggested generally don't interest me that much outside of the officially released stuff.

I JOKE AROUND a lot here, but honestly listening to Sacrifice of Victor right now I could tear up. The music just means so much to me and it's so beautiful, the music, the words. It makes my soul well up. Peace to everyone today and peace to Prince.

Much love.

I'm going to wing it today. I just want to make it home, turn on the stereo, and click on anything and everything Prince related. No specific era, just whatever catches my eye at that moment.

Lovesexy followed by hit n run 2 as Cooked the dinner.

The guy was an absolute genius. So glad I got to experience the majority of his career as it happened.

I’ve streamed random recordings, official and boots, all day in the background, which I have to admit is really unfulfilling, but am now on side 2 of LoveSexy in true tribute…and it’s glorious. As always.

This is what I do.

I am up to Musicology.

Coincidently Kimbra was the guest presenter on Rage this morning. She chose to play the video of Musicology. This was because it was the first Prince video she had seen and she was hooked.

The most recent album recording that I've mostly played through is the Symbol one.

I've obtained a handful of bootleg-type recordings--nothing special or rare--that I hardly revisit. I appeciate having the Live in Syracuse Purple Rain show on CD.

Like what probably many people on here already have done, I look forward to creating several anthologies of Prince's music organized by subject content and form that I think will deepen my appreciation of his craftwork. He would sprinkle so many differing styles of song into his later-date albums that it might make their individual appreciation more challenging to do, otherwise, I think.
