The Estate actually announced two releases on Friday 14 April 2023...

Today we are pleased to announce the wider reissue of Prince's 1995 masterpiece The Gold Experience and 1998 acoustic album The Truth on black vinyl. Both albums will be released by Legacy Recordings on June 9.

Four and a half months into this "big" year (their words) and this is their first announcement.

For You’s 45th anniversary just passed with no fanfare or a special release with demos/outtakes… just another reissue of albums I could swear were already reissued not too long ago! neutral

Didn't I just buy Gold Experience on vinyl for Record Store Day? Like... the very most recent reissue already offered was that?

ey

I guess this means probably no other release until September or October.

Why didn't they just release these properly the first time around.

Idiots.

The real question is: are these reissues wide enough? The Estate better make sure. We don't want them to come back one year from now and announce another wider release...

'The Gold Experience' is actually a new release on vinyl.

The other one was the promo replica.

Hmmm, i might just order this one...

Your choice! But also a reason, why the same product keeps getting re-re-re-released in different packaging. If everyone stopped partaking in these industry schemes, there'd be a much higher chance of getting actual NEW product. But as I said, you're free to help stuff the pockets of people you'll never meet in person.

I don't give a single shit about vinyl. Not interested, and haven't been since however many years ago it has been that I ditched my last record player. Hated the pops, crackles and scratches. Always hated the format.

I've got much money to spend on Prince music but the estate just don't want it 🤷🏻‍♂️

With Sony finally putting some out, and seieng as how they staggered their releases against new stuff from the estate that we really want, I'd say it's a pretty decent signal that a larger campaign is afloat.

We bought both of those at RSC, TGE last year and The Truth the year before.

Girl, it's APRIL. Settle down.

We haven't gotten an SDE since late 2020, nor any unreleased music whatsoever since July 2021. All the estate has done in the last two years is rehash the same reissues, put out Prince & The Revolution: Live for the umpteenth time, and peddled overpriced merchandise. If they have any kind of actual game plan or desire to share Prince's vault with the world, I'd like some proof instead of the cryptic bullshit they're running with now.

I'm personally quite happy with these being announced. It's very hard for me to get to an RSD event and even if I did, prices would probably bomb my bank account. Records are expensive, even moreso at RSD events, and leftover stock put online after often goes fast for big artists like Prince. I was super bummed to not get a copy of The Truth and thought I never would, so now I can finally get my hands on one and not worry too much about pressure of time (ie. one day and a later post to the website). This also saves paying ridiculus prices for an original copy of TGE, so over the next year or so I can pick these up majorly stress free. They may not be exclusive RSD editions with fancy foil stickers, but I can finally get them and flesh out my Prince collection even more

eye dont think U heard me . . .

To my knowledge, they aren't any different. Maybe the reception to the limited release warranted a more official one.

The Gold Experience is very different from the earlier pressing. Different album art, different vinyl color, different track listing—-this is the version I wanted from the beginning.

.

Both TGE and The Truth on regular vinyl are in fact holdovers from the Comerica era. Pictures of test pressings of TGE from October 2021 have surfaced.

.

So both these releases plus the upcoming D&P/Symbol release were actually Comerica projects, and this shows that the "new" Estate hasn't had a single new idea since taking control in mid-2022 and is in fact merely releasing older projects that Comerica was working on, i.e. the company Sharon and others claim to despise.

.

I'm still convinced W2A was never meant to be the sole release in 2021, and that its delays are possibly the result of Sony/Legacy sabotaging other projects by announcing late (early April) and releasing almost four months later (late July). I suspect the original plan was to release it by early June, and then follow it up with an SDE announcement shortly after, with the SDE arriving in October. Perhaps the delay in W2A was merely caused by production issues, but I wouldn't rule it out that Sony/Legacy didn't want their release overshadowed by an SDE in which they would only have some stakes (only USA distribution), or perhaps they weren't even getting that SDE at all (note that both albums were missing from the Sony/Legacy USA reissues).

Again, the Netflix documentary has put the brakes on several potential projects because they have been given dibs on material.

i guess the one good thing about this is that hopefully these pressings will be cheaper than the other ones.

i dont need gold on vinyl tbh.

but i might like the truth as an LP.

that's what we've been hearing for the last 3 years or so.

now watch the netflix doc either never coming out, or it being
released with 2 unheard songs and the 84 birthday show.

meanwhile, the whole vault is in stasis for years.
