Absolutely. But you are missing the point.

Sure, we already have more than most fans of other artists - this is what I have been saying. However, the point is there is more that can be done. This is not just for us who have been conditioned for decades to expect a high volume of official and unofficial output virtually every year. It is also for the legacy and how this is passed on so others can be aware and the music can be more accessible. The Super Deluxe Editions are for super fans. Systematically remastering the older releases and compiling new sets that are a mix of what is widely known, known to few and unreleased can inspire more new fans.

This is about the preservation of art, not serving the needs of us spoiled Superfans or monetising the estate.

I'm still hankering for those "Willing and Able" leaks.

Maybe we're lucky to have what we've gotten so far but I sure as hell wouldn't say we're "spoiled" when we've gone two and a half years without any kind of major new release...

This could be a problem. a lot of venues videorecorded the shows Prince played that Prince didn't video record and a lot of those were sent to Prince (what he did with some of them is another story tho; threw them in the trash for example for some of the recordings) but Paisley Park have to strike a deal with the owner of the recording to release it.

I want this, now, I'm getting old, my ears are less responsive year by year, I cannot wait forever.

Yes many of the known songs are out there....I do believe that there are many great ones that we know nothing about and some we have heard of that are not in wide circulation.

But there are many maybe 10 albums worth that we know of that are not released or in circulation... just about all songs he did for other acts at least through the 80s were recorded by Prince.... I want to hear them.

Yeah, I wonder about that, though. Maybe 80s stuff is a bit degraded, but once DAT came into play, etc., things from 30 years ago isn't going to be nearly as bad as stuff even 40 years ago.

I totally get them re-releasing stuff on vinyl so it's all out there (because some never was on vinyl or extremely limited). I get the simple remasters.

But with 1000 songs (just as a number for argument sake), the fuck are we looking at down the line for releases? It's at least another 50 albums of stuff, or at least the main catalog with the extras from those eras. Why they're dragging their feet is just beyond me.

I honestly doubt Prince had mant "good" songs in the vault. The proof is in what has been released. It has been proven to us, and for some of us it's been known for decades, that the best stuff is what he decided to release. the rest, he put away to work on some other time. The 70s version of I could never take the lace of your man is nor as good as the reworked, and finally released version on sign of the times. Prince made decisions of what to release based on what he heard and reeased what he thought was worthy. I myself agree with his decisions. I know it comes down to taste, but, artists and producers do have a good isea of what they want their audience to hear and what they will pay for. It cheapens what the artist put together as a final product when all these other artifacts are presented as one with the original album.

Don't get me wrong, I buy the SDE or unreleased albums when they come out, but i won't be waiting, or clamoring for them. The estate only has to look as far as The John Lennon Estate to see what happens when the well runs dry and "new' product is nowhere to be found. Prince was a made that made a finite number of recordings good enough to be released. He released his best while alive and now that he's dead, the Estate, whether we like it not, is a business that wants to stay afloat for as long as possible , and the "good' shit has to be doled out slowly.

I think 50 albums is stretching it.

And, whatever we get, we bitch about anyway.

"Good" is mostly relative. We are fans. We want to hear what he recorded, even if it's not up to par. It tells a story of where he was at that moment in his life. It's history.

Yes, there are many outtakes out there, but I believe some things are very well locked. I never had one single outtake of any of the Welcome 2 America songs, for example. And I dont believe there is only ´junk´ left. Most artists that worked with Prince say that they recorded many things that werent released. And I am curious to listen to anything he recorded with the 90s NPG, for example. Not to mention live concerts, jams, etc
