OFFICIAL INSTRUMENTALS?

Here’s another wishlist to the estate for whenever they get around to it…

There should be a compilation of official instrumentals! Hits and deep cuts. They don’t even have to spend money for physical releases. A digital release would be awesome

Is it blasphemous? Would Prince like it? perhaps not. But im sure Prince would not have liked many of the estate’s decisions… this would be a non-issue to him probably

They need a release that highlights his abilities as a genius composer and arranger

Here are some of my picks:
Little Red Corvette
Crystal Ball
In a Large Room With No Light
Big City
Shhh
Strays of the World
If I Was Your Girlfriend
Glam Slam
Come

What tracks would you suggest?

None of the tracks you have chosen have an official instrumental version.

Just a nicely presented box set of the Madhouse albums including the unreleased versions would do.

Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

Too bad that the instrumental version of "Sign O' The Times" was not included in the SDE (even if I'm glad of what we have).
Madonna released many songs in its instrumental versions.

As in officially released by the estate. You know how Prince played all or many of the instruments on many of his albums - He did not do this all at the same time.

MJ did a lot of instrumentals from Bad, too.

"Bad" had a dub version.

TWYMMF, Man in the Mirror, Dirty Diana, Another Part of Me, Smooth Criminal all had an instrumentals.

Janet had some dub versions, too.

The closest Prince had to that was "7 Minute Mo'Quake" which sorta feeds into the album version at some point. And SOTT credit roll. I suppose the sax version of "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" could count.

But yeah, it would've been nice.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Yes but her instrumentals were (for the most part) releases on 12" and b-sides - just collected together for box sets etc. Prince was never a fan of just taking the vox off and releasing it - He would usually just do a totally new mix (or 6!)

"Taking the vox off"? Surely this is about vault tracks that are before the vox was put on.

How many Disco Jellyfishes are there before the Chocolate Box was made, not how many vox emptied Chocolate Box mixes are there. We know and have some of the pre-release versions (ie not post release remixes) of tracks written for others wih Prince's vox added to demo these for prospective releases.

Yes of course, I'm just reacting to the 'Madonna released many instrumentals' comment, they were just the record company looking for a cheap way to fill 12" and b-sides - unlike what Prince would do.
