is this the worst time ever to be a prince fan

no releases in literal years, overpriced merch, nothing really substantial has leaked in nearly 3 years, all new bootlegs are just rehashed bullshit, zero communication from the estate.

Is this the worst time ever to be a prince fan?

And yet, we've never had so much Prince music. Ever.

Imagine being a Prince fan in 1978. lol

the worst time to be a fan was the day he died. these days are merely annoying.
i kinda hate some of the people in charge but that's about it smile there'll be more
music in the future.

In the NBC sitcom "30 Rock", there's a storyline where Tracy Morgan's character Tracy Jordan is in hiding. And in one episode, there's a scene where Tracy's posse, Grizz and Dotcom, lament that they wish they knew where Tracy was, because he has the key to the candy safe. Then they cut to a shot of the candy safe: it's made of CLEAR PLASTIC, and it's stuffed full. And Grizz whines, "The worst part is you can *see* the candy."

.

That's the way I feel about The Estate dragging their collective feet with the SDE releases. The Vault is the candy safe, and we super-fans just KNOW it's crammed full of tasty tunes. But we can't get into The Vault, and we can't sample Prince's confections. It's maddening, at times.

Excellent analogy.

I worry that the Religiouslature half of the estate is busy destroying everything that made Prince fun. Prudes.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

The most frustrating time for sure.

We were so use to getting regular releases. This is surely the longest we've ever had to wait.

Surely they could at least give us the odd song every now and then.

Exactly - For me it started the mornng before work on 20 April 2016 hearing it on the radio hoping it was one of those false death announcements. Fortunately my workmates were exceedingly understanding and supportive that day.

I guess if you are a long time Prince fan who has heard all his available music already, then yes, this could be considered the worst time to be a Prince fan. No new releases in years, no news from the estate about any upcoming releases or outtakes and the only news seems to be for rubbish like candles, bed sheets and other such nonsense.

However, for new fans like myself and others, it's actually a great time to be a Prince fan. There's the complete discography to get through (which I have done) as well as a treasure trove of unreleased gems (which I am slowly making my way through).

So I guess it all depends on perspective.

Another perspective is that this available discography (released and otherwise) is vast compared to so many other artists.

I think there's going to be a flurry of releases anounced. There's money to be made and they will do whatever they can to make that money. But Prince fan in 2023 so far has been depessing.

Nothing about anything after the 80s. NOTHING about this man in his later years.

Part of me wonders if they've back-burnered all other plans to focus on a proper Purple Rain SDE next year. It'll be the 40th Anniversary, after all...

The first worst time to be a Prince fan was in 1989 on first play of the ‘Batman’ album and after a promising start with ‘Batdance’ released before, the eagerness was enhanced with first ‘The Future’, then ‘Electric Chair’. Oh my, on comes the monstrosity of ‘The Arms of Orion’, my heart sank, how awful was that. How the hell that became the third single, I don’t know. At least it was saved by the piss-take b-side of ‘I Love U In Me’.
There may or may not be something coming!

Not a long time fan at all but I will say that the reissue of Prince & The Revolution Live was a huge disappointment for me because we've gotten this same concert reissued twice after his death, on DVD with the Purple Rain Deluxe and the 2020 issue. It's admittedly a stellar remaster and I'll stream it from time to time but I have no interest in buying it.

The leaks about Diamonds & Pearls and prince getting reissued are a bit interesting since I'm trying to expand my record collection but I'm really holding out for more unreleased albums/vault tracks.

The worst time was between 2011 - 2013 during the recording rehab when Prince didn't release any new albums. I think real reason for the recording rehab was that no label was willing to pay him upfront for his music at the time.
