Vanity 6 Album: production/instruments so early 80's (in a good way)

I listen to this album a lot.

.

Some of the cuts besides my 2 favs (Nasty Girl and If a Girl Answers).....sound almost like they could be on the Go Gos or similar.

.

The production takes me back to like 81-82, even though I didn't inow about this album at the time (believe it or not!)

.

But hearing it now you can tell it was early 80's. What synths was he using on here to get that sound?

This is a good resource for equipment used and says Prince was using the Oberheim OB (-SX, -X, -Xa) and Arp Omni, for the 1999 album, which is a similar time period as the Vanity 6 album was being worked on, so likely those synths were also used on it.
There may or may not be something coming!

Yes for the funk songs. If a GIrl Answers coulda been on 1999

.

.

But on "he's so dull" and "wet dream" the keyboards have a different sound.

Some of the stuff that Prince gave to his side projects had that slightly generic early 80s synth sound . . . not quite refined enough for the "Prince" brand that he was building, but still pleasing enough for release for others.
