Willing & Able

Four different 'Willing & Able' mixes have surfaced. The Extended version is very similar to the video version, with longer intro and longer ending.

I don't get the hate of those raps in those songs that were written that way--yeah it's not big-league Hip-Hop, but whatever. I guess haters just gonna hate.

And what are the differences ?

Just because someone doesn't want the raps doesn't make them a hater

Good grief - someone has a different point of view and they are a hater...

Maybe since we already have the rap versions, some of us want to have the option to not have them

hmmm if so probably
Album version
Edit
Video version
Video extended version.

I have no real clue.
4 version of willing and able is overkill (on a box set)
Oh wait.. 1999 SDE had 4 versions of some tracks. Album vers, Single edit, remix and what nots.

Who knows

Hopefully it's not that above. The OP said 4 mixes. One can hope for 4 mixes we've yet to hear

Not going to lie, my heart sunk the first time I heard Tony M rapping on a Prince record. But I have to say, he did a good job on Willing and Able. Possibly his best. I love the video version of this track. Some of Prince's best screams ever. The whole band is sharp and on point. Keys, organ, guitars, horns. These guys were on fire.

Great then, if U really don't hate. The raps are a part of the song--I'd be thinking the same way if one would want to find an edit of a recording where those Prince screams aren't in there--not liking that kind of screeeching, y'know.

>

People wanna edit out parts that exhibit a disliked artistic choice or unpreferred expression, and that's not hating. OK then, perhaps we can call it "a desire for an alternative" like U suggest. Maybe somebody CAN dig up an unfinished version or unmixed track that would suit your rap-less alternative desires.

>

Maybe one day somebody will cut a cover of the song that doesn't include the rap and reap the benefits of the alternative viz.

This. My favourite Tony M appearance - he’s a great addition to the song (the only time you’ll catch me saying that!). Everything about the video version is just perfect.

Same here. This song is probably my favorite on the album. The video/live-in-the-studio version is just perfect as well. At this point, I don't think I really *need* another version of the song. lol

There's also the version from D&P Beginnings. It had the interlude Joyful Sound before it. This is probably the 'longer intro' the OP is referring to.

Prince only vocals (no Rosie, Steeles or Tony rap)

It really is one of the best things he ever did. A different sound for him. (Always makes me think of South African stuff, tho I don't know if that's technically accurate.) And yes, Tony's finest moment with his mouth open. Not his usual bombastic self.

And the video version... something magical about it. It's like the opposite of his solo in studio, sterile electronic jams, excellent as they are. Almost like an old fashioned jazz record. As he said later, real music by real musicians.

The video is one of my all-time-favourites. The Steeles are killing it, too.

I always dreamt that this was a longer live-in-the-studio recording session with more songs (see The Undertaker) - and one day we get to see it all! cool lol

One of the best moments is the gal who is on the crew, working behind a camera guy, has a roll of tape on her belt loop, and she's just sorta groovin' back n' forth enjoying the moment.
