Great interview. Thanks for sharing.

This story about Prince being to shy to sing loud enough sounds incredible, but it comports with the stories Susan Rogers would tell, where he'd kick everyone out of the studio to record in vocals his private. Seems like he was very shy about those... at least earlier in his career. Wonder if he got over that as he aged?

I also never understood what the safe meaning of Soft and Wet was supposed be. I'm glad Moon cleared that up.

I think Levi is on record with a story about continued privacy over vocal sessions in the early 90s. The anecdote was about accidentally entering the studio during such a session and seeing Prince spitting into the mic at full pelt as though it was a live show. So he obviously learned to unleash his voice in the studio, but still needed privacy and the right conditions until late in his career.

Also, the thing with the bed in the studio seems like a theme… I guess Always thought that was a sex thing (which it sounds like it sometimes was), but also perhaps took him back to these early sessions.

Wow, that's one of the best interviews about Prince's origins I've ever read. Thank you so much for sharing the link.

Awesome interview! Probably one of the best about the early days that I’ve read. Thank you for sharing!

I wonder where those demos from Moonsound and Sound 80 are today… in the vault perhaps? They should be included in a For You SDE for sure though!
