"God is Alive" Appreciation thread Up until a week ago I had completely forgotten about this song.
I remember back in the day I thought It was a bit too long but now I can't get enough of this track. A pity he never released this song. The vocals by both prince and Mavis are really great and the guitar playing throughout especially towards the end makes my hair on my arms stand up when listening with headphones I honestly feel like I've been taken to church when the song ends I don't see it get much love when is orgers list out favorite outtakes What do you think of the song? Like it? Love it? Hate it? [Edited 2/12/23 9:27am]

It's good for a gospel song.

It's one of the songs where you wonder how the hell he couldn't find a way to release it. It belongs in the official pantheon of music, not tucked away on a reel somewhere. Probably his last great guitar driven funk rock gospel song since Let's Go Crazy and certainly the last one for some time after.

Its definitely a top favorite of mine. I've wondered if there may be a version with prince on lead vocals. But I still love it with Mavis I will take my place, In the great below

Is this the one with the lyrics that God is coming like a dog in heat?

I like it, except the line “Up with education, down with crime”, just seems a bit kids tv, like (UK school drama) Grange Hill’s ‘Just Say No’ campaign. Here are a couple of past org threads about it: https://prince.org/msg/7/467986 https://prince.org/msg/7/319027 There may or may not be something coming!

I was obsessed with this song when I first heard it. It was first widely available on the "Deposition" bootleg, right? I mean: the full song, not the excerpt from the documentary. [Edited 2/13/23 0:21am]

The song is fantastic. (Altough i am absolutely not a god lover, and find the lyrics therefor a bit silly.) I wish for a better quality too, the one we all have is shitty. He should've used this gem as the B-side for ''Glam Slam'' instead of ''Escape.'' I like ''Escape'' but this one is far more better. - Wasn't Prince planning to make a complete gospel album at some point? When Prince goes gospel i always like it. Is this maybe the gospel album I mentioned ? "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I never thought much of it until I revisited it after hearing the live version on the Lovesexy tour soundboards a few years ago. . To think he took it off GB and put some mediocre shit on there like the title track is madness

The bootleg version is actually from a worktape for the film, dated 1989. Has a couple other "Graffiti Bridge" songs on it. usually known as "Leaped7689"

Is it known which version of Big Tall Wall was included on the early Graffiti Bridge config. I assume version 2. Something BIG Is Coming.

Reeading thru this thread i believe the public must've come here over the last 7 years and thought, "Wow. Princ'es fans are really knowledgable."
He truly did become judged by the quality of his work.

The version from the aftershow @The Palace, Hollywood, CA, November 7, 1988 hits home eveytime I listen to it. "Prince don't know how many hits he got"

He truly did become judged by the quality of his work. Well Joris and a few of the others are the knowledgable ones, the rest of us are quite happily to be labelled idiots, either formerly by Bart or Mr Charles F Spicer🤣 There may or may not be something coming!
