I would say that 1980 is the least known year in Prince’s career in terms of live shows and unreleased studio tracks that are circulating amongst fans! As far as I know only Lisa, Rough and the 3 demo versions of Sister are out there…

To your list I would add Prince’s version of I Don’t Wanna Stop and a dvd of a live show and you got yourself a really good SDE. Plus, I’m sure that there are more unreleased tracks and demos we don’t even know exist!

Nice! But give me Parade SDE first. I can't move forward until I have the full Evolsidog. Preferably, all versions.

May U Live 2 See The Release of Parade SDE

I will never understand how or why this album is obsessed over. It's just fine but no better than, say, Batman to my ears.

Your ears need a check up. Take into account that right now it's 43 years old and that, again, it's one guy doing all of it. It was also a radical shift from what he was doing on the previous two albums. Oh, and it's a great album. My only gripe is that, for me, it's too damn short.

I think my ears are pretty okay. Inspired by this thread, I listened to it again this morning. Here's some takeaways:

* A few songs are standouts: Dirty Mind, When U Were Mine, Uptown, Head
* The drums sound like shit.
* His falsetto is more nasal on this record than any other and that's saying something for a perennially nasal falsetto singer.
* The keys are way too squeaky and squealy - he didn't replicate this artistic choice ever again.
* The bass sounds great on a good system. Too bad it pulverizes the rest of the muddy mix.
* On an 8 song album he wasted three spots with bland songs: Do It All Night, Sister, Partyup.

ETA: Why would I need a refresher on the fact it's him doing it all? He also did it all on For You, Prince, and damn near every other album of the 40 he released with few exceptions.

Bullshit. They sound paper thin and wet. There is barely any bottom in this entire album and the drums sound like wet concrete.

This is a masterpiece LP and definitely deserves the SDE. I would love if it included very spare things like just the vocals solo on When You Were Mine. I guess the Rebels material doesn’t fit, right? In any case, this would be an immediate buy.

Funny.

I completely disagree.

It is so much more than a (great) album.

It left such a huge gap in all it's aspects with the previous one,

and never quite got a decent follow up with 'Controversy'.

It was a promise of so much more to 'cum'.

It was more a 'fuck U Yeah, that's what I really wanna do', than a musical document called an album.

It's something Prince never EVER did again, EVER!

Yes it is way too short.

Maybe that's why it tasted so... unsatisfyingly 4 star Michelin (to those of us who like it).

An off-track slap in your face, like some quick insight into a brain that was so fast,

and should've been even more pulled open.

But his nastyness here was just a tickle.

(...also think of good shit like 'Neurotic Lover's Bedroom'...)

Musically it is so in-your-face, production-wise it could not be recorded faster.

Like a fast load of sperm, coming too quick.

I just love this album by far the most...

...and Parade, also because of some genius incompleteness (to me).

I agree except for the live show. I would perfer they release the best quality that represents the era and not already available to most collectors.

Dirty Mind is a really important album in Prince's catalog and it deserves to be celebrated as such.It definitely deserves the SDE treatment.

Exactly.
I think all these themes that Prince sings about on that album, are probably not going to get proper treatment these days.
I feel like we're going backwards again in terms of freedom of expression through music, or at least the interpretation of it..
Everything seems to be so clean and perfect, and stripped of anything questionable or ambiguous.
Yeah, Dirty Mind... I wish they did a Super package soon, just not sure if they will feel it...
The Estate now seems in charge of 'older' decisions, or no decision at all. Let's hope i'm wrong.

Yeah the oh so misunderstood plight of incestuous families.

What else on this record makes you so nervous about freedom of speech?
