Are any of the NPG albums on Spotify? If not, there's your answer. If Exodus and Goldnigga are on it, then it's a mystery.

Great question because Tidal has NPS, Exodus, Girl 6 and 1-800-NEWFUNK

There's something about the protege deals that are different than the main canon deals. That's all anyone knows.

Cuz it sucks?

It was that dry ass acrylic production on it. Then he has the nerve to tell Mel B. it's the most hype record he's ever recorded with the NPG.

Fah real, tho? Nothing beats Exodus in those three. Nothing.

Goldnigga's best, some of you are just pavlovian conditioned against Tony M. trax.

Exodus has a lot of fans here but it's a cluttered mess. NPS gets slightly better (slightly) over time.

The bane of my discussion haunts. Every forum has somebody asking why album x by artist y isn't on Spotify...

co-sign.

The evolution of the album in general (or maybe what a cynic could perhaps argue as the "lowering of standards") since the 80s, beyond Prince, has altered the criteria for what makes a good/bad album , and yeah, it's got "The One", it's got "Wasted Kisses", "Come On"s a jam.

Maybe it's not a "great" album, or even necessarily a "good" album, but it's not this abhorrent blight in his oeuvre some of the old-school fans make it out to be,

It's the Come of the next Prince "fams" generation, calling it here, it's already starting.

Yeah I think NPS and Goldnigga are way better than people say, and that Exodus is far over hyped when I think it really only has a couple good songs (Exodus Has Begun and Get Wild).

Come On is a career highlight IMO. The One is like pretty ok... I guess. It's good but not super interesting. Wasted Kisses is kind of crazy. The rest of the album gives me a plasticine headache.

A lot of it is just fun music. Not trying to be anything else. Kind of like The Time.

Come On is great (& gave us one of his coolest, wackiest performances on The Tonight Show; I think that's the one where he teaches Leno how to clap).

& it doesn't get love here, but I've always dug Push It Up. A great concert opener/party starter.

I love Push it up as well but adding Larry Graham's vocals was a bad idea. He and Tony M ruin every Prince song for me.

If you take out those segues, the album is so much more cohesive.

I do enjoy the band-centric approach to Goldnigga. There are some jams on there...

If one can get past whatshisname.

I also like ''Push It Up'' very much. It's just so super funky.

That same summer i had it on repeat on my iPod. wink

I think they're only available on Tidal, Prince had a deal with them when he was still with us and at that time, Tidal was the only streaming platform where you could find his albums.

NPS has really grown on me over the years. Its not his best, but its certainly not near his worst. The title track has been my first track on my running playlist fpr years.

I've liked Exodus from day one. Return of Bump Squad is fierce.

I haven't heard anything from GoldNigga...not seeking it out as I was never a fan of that era.

I quit Spoify awhile ago.

I listened to it the other day.

It's still dry and plastic. I really wish there had been a live band on this album. The songs have potential, but that compressed production just kills the liveliness.

NPS is a real mixed bag. Come On and The One are top notch, Until U're In My Arms Again is nice but very sad considering the subject, Wasted Kisses is interesting to say the least. The rest I can live without, especially the 'live' party tracks.

.

I love everything on Exodus. The title track and The Good Life would probably make my top 20 P. The segues like Mashed Potato Girl are funny but it's frustrating he could've replaced them with likes of Mad, Funky Design, Love..Thy Will Be Done

.

I love everything on Gold Nigga. Could listen to that live band sound all day. And Tony is my boy
