Standing At The Altar

now this is a completely top tier pop tune, what incredible songwriting. and vox from margie pretti good too.

that being said, give me the p vox version. he's already all over every ounce of the background vox.

She has indeed always been white and blonde and basically a rock and roll Kim Basinger which is what P wanted in 1989.

Mind is legitimately blown...i could swear i read somewhere she was from northwest africa and i wrongly assumed she was melanated.

I learned something new today.

She did indeed grow up in North Africa but I believe she is of Scandanavian ancestry (like so many from MPLS) wink

I'm a big fan of Margie aka Ta Mara (& The Seen). Affecttion is one of my all time faves (produced by Jesse Johnson).

My brother in Christ - do you not remember Ta Mara and the Seen? That's Margie Cox.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It really is a strong tune. It's a goddamn shame it never made it anywhere except on that damn compilation.

It's a total sleeper. Sometimes I think he really misjudged the taste of his audience. To bury this song on a nothing release...

I really hope his version is set free before I die.

Loved it on first listen back on release. What a brilliant pop song and interesting it was apparently influenced by Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland break up just before their planned wedding.
.
I’ve always loved Morris Hayes’ organ solo on it and he was happy to talk about it when I met him in 2019.

I vaguely remember jesse johnson producing that group, but i dont remember ever seeing them...i was never really a big fan of all those random Minneapolis Sound side projects, offshoots, and musical step-children...if it wasnt Prince, The Time, or Andre Cymone, i pretty much ignored it.

I used to say the same thing, that "Whistlin' Kenny" was the only b-side I didn't have... But then I realized I had it all along in a bootleg compliation I'd picked up. It was misnamed "God Is Standing At Your Side", so I didn't realize what it was.

I don't know where it'd end up. I would love to hear his version. Sounds like Originals II is due.

I'm trying to remember, I don't think I have it either. I did a search and nothing came up on my drive.

Yes Prince's version should definitely be released at some point. Standing At The Altar is an amazing song. Lots of the songs Prince wrote for other artists at the time was even better the material on his own albums.

I love this song.

It always struck me as Prince's version of Freda Payne's "Band Of Gold".
