the estate should shop princes unreleased songs to young artists

Same way any new writer tries to get a song recorded, the estate should get his unreleased songs done up by other artists

What better way to expose his music to a new audience

Its not like he doesn't have the material they could work with

It could be a cool way to work with the vault in a way you cant do with most artists music when they pass

Just a thought cool

Why ?

Prince didn't care so why should you.

If he did he'd leave a will.

There's no tampering of his unreleased music. I know Prince would be fuming at the thought of someone else singing his songs, especially these new popular "artists" if we can even call them that.

No thank you. In most (but not all) cases, I dislike people covering Prince.

No thanks! That’d be like saying Miles Davis’ music should be tampered by new artists… it’s preposterous! If younger generations want to get into Prince’s music then they’ll discover it through the art of it, no need for an outsider to tamper with something that was Prince’s artistic vision…

How about just releasing the tracks as is so people can hear it. Having some no-talent ruin his material is the horror most fans have after he died. Hopefully this will never happen.
It cheapens his music by having some record company puppet degrade it.

miles davis did not write pop songs.

lol @ 'tampered'

you guys might remember a certain cover of i feel for you by chaka khan in the 80s that did a lot for prince as a songwriter for other artists, or as someone who could be covered succesfully by others. and hate her if you want, but sinead o connors version for NC2U made even people who dislike prince think he was a great writer. and not a cover exactly, but a song he gave away, manic monday in the hands of the bangles was an 80s classic.

so 'tampering' is not necessarily a bad thing.

my idea is just that they do what prince himself did in the 80s, let other artists record his material. id still wanna hear his versions ofc.

I appreciate the sentiment and really wish life was congruent to feel good stuff like this, but also it's a dilution of his actual sessionography and let's not pretend that this wouldn't end up another we're only in it for the money wankfest, if any of the hypothetical artists even got anything out of it spiritually themselves.

Leave RJ alone, he's just that way sometimes and we need folks like that to remind us not to become too rigid in our tastes.

i guess it dies for most people at some point.

and then you just retreat into your old favourites, or old eras, or stuff that sounds like that, and thats it.

Sorry but your disrespectful idea can only be understood by people who never witnessed Prince, I guess you weren't there when it mattered.

It has nothing to do with age or "old-timers"...i actually like Phoebe Bridges, Taylor Swift and Miguel...but not enough for them to be entrusted with Prince Nelson's music...as far as music "dying in the 90s", thats a silly statement...i listen to, and love, plenty of current music...i just dont listen to alot of the cornball current mainstream music some of you nerds, geeks, and doofuses listen to...
