We're lucky he left such a diverse body of work - Emancipation is one of my favourite albums by anyone, it was the album turned me and some friends into serious Prince fans, and I go back to it often.

I love Emancipation a lot !
That's the thing about Prince's music : One man's trash is another one's treasure haha. [Edited 1/5/23 8:47am]

I'm glad somebody made sure we remember the difference between "great" and good.
Last really good album - The Gold Experience. Last good album - The Rainbow Children (although I could do without most of the lyrics). +e

Maybe I'm an old Statler (or Waldorf), but although I enjoyed Emancipation, The Rainbow Children, The Gold Experience, AOA and HnR2... his last GREAT album upon first listen for me was Lovesexy. [Edited 1/5/23 11:01am]

Last really good album - The Gold Experience. Last good album - The Rainbow Children (although I could do without most of the lyrics). What makes you think those concepts were lost on someone? The thread isn't "what's prince's last good, really good, and great albums?" lol Anyway the last great album to me was clearly LotusFlower. Gold Experience before that. Symbol before that. Lovesexy. And on.

Last great 'album' was 'Art Official Age'. HnR 1 & 2 were compilations of leftovers, one-offs, and remixes. "Whatever skin we're in

yeah, but there was no attention to detail for those 'Hit&Run' compilations. They were his own "bootlegs" for the fams "Whatever skin we're in

i dont understand the love for the hit n run albums. yeah theres some good songs on them, but as a whole, theyre not amazing. HNR1 is prince trying to sound modern, sometimes in a good way, sometimes not so good. HNR2 is prince trying to sound like its 1974 again lol, very acurately in some ways, right down to that kind of stodgy 70s vibe, but its listenable ofc. id rather listen to a recording of one of the shows from the last tour personally.

Hard to combat such wide generalities. HNR2 is stacked with really great songs. It's amusing to see you say it sounds stodgy considering his sounds was polished AF by then.

PRINCE ALBUMs. Since after 1990, I guess??? . Diamands And Pearls Come The Gold Experience Emancipation Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic The Rainbow Children N.E.W.S. Xpectation Musicology 3121 Lotus Flower 20TEN Art Official Age . everything else was a compilation. i love all that stuff inbetween, but they were only forced as an album. To me, an album is mostly comprised of current compositions, pertaining to that era. 'Graffiti Bridge' is a sick anomaly
