Tic Tac Toe is one of the best late era songs. Seriously, play this one loud. It's like ear candy. He amped up the dreaminess for this song and I've always loved it when Prince did ethereal stuff like that (Future Soul Song, parts of All My Dreams, etc). I wouldn't change anything about the song. I wish it got the attention that Whitecaps got!

I’ve always liked it. There was some talk of it possibly being about Mayte. And in her book the ‘travel back to ancient dance’ line is used in the first chapter so who knows [Edited 12/11/22 0:59am]

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

It mars the song because the lyric refers to people who can't see playing a game that typically requires a visual component? Good grief, the 2022 of it all.

Good grief! "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I'm glad Prince was at his peak in the 80's because with the way people are so sensitive and politically correct these days, he'd be in hot water on more than one occasion haha.

He ducked out at the right time. I ain't ever seen a tictactoe board with braille on it. Tf are these people smoking. And because he really wanted to use the Zeroes/Exes metaphor in a song about conflicted feelings about an ex who isn't completely gone from his life (because, as he sort of muses in the last verse, they'll always be there even if you just bury them in the ocean of catastrophic things in your past). The song is so brilliant and even has some of his weird gibberish lingo in it. The reference to "the blind leading the blind" is not an attack or a jab at blind people, lmao.

looool, no one is saying CANCEL PRINCE so calm down.
the problem is not that hes talking about blind people not being able to see (DUH), its that its phrased in a kind of comedy punchline way, or in a silly way (he should have made it something like "like a blindfolded man playing tic tac toe"). i read it and i just think of dumb stand up gags about ray charles and stevie. thats where it gets a bit tricky. prince seemed to be big on blind lyrics in this period, not sure why. i guess its not as silly as "But even Ray Charles can see you/Stevie Wonder can too" in look at me look at you though.

I really like this song. I never even considered that it could be offensive to blind people. I don't think he's saying anything mean about blind people. Like, he's not making fun of them or anything. I'm all for treating everyone equally and being sensitive. But there's such a thing as being TOO sensitive. As for the Stevie Wonder line in Loot At Me, Look At You, I don't think he's out of line here either. As I understand it, Stevie Wonder was a friend of Prince's. Or they were on good terms, at least. And if Stevie Wonder himself didn't take offense, why should we feel offended on his behalf?

Well about Stevie, it's been rumored that he had surgery to restore his eyesight. Maybe Prince knew something we didn't. Stevie was a friend of his so I doubt he'd want to make fun of him.

I can't listen to this song, like many others on PE, because of Hannah"s vocals. She just can't sing - and not in a cute, unique way like Vanity or Appolonis or shit, even Mayte - but in a bland, boring way. I would like PE immensely more if anyone else was singing aside from Hannah. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
