Is there a prince vocal version of Modernaire?

It's never become entirely clear (to me anyway) who wrote what for the song Modernaire.
Dez seems to have written te lyrics and perhaps a basic melody and then prince coloured
the song in further and added his guitar, keys and backing vocals, no?

But I remember Dez mentioning somewhere that Prince got him to sing 'in a new style' on
the song so I'm wondering if Prince did a take with a lead vocal (using Dez's lyrics?).

This song has been a little guilty pleasure of mine since it was finally released and I would
love to hear a prince vocal take on it.

Anyone know anything more about the conception of this song?

I'm fairly certain he did a guide vocal in addition to the backing vocals.

I've always been a fan of that song as well, ever since I first heard the snippet in Purple Rain.

Well, we know he wrote it. It's been proven long since.

Which really - it moreover goes to show the pure level of intense, and quality output he was doing for the whole project. "Modernaire" was probably just another song in the arsenal, but then it's just thrown into the movie, and little do we know it's more Prince.

An interesting note from Princevault about the track:

While specific recording dates are not known, it is believed that the track was recorded in May 1983 at Prince’s Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota (credited as "the Purple House basement studio").

Some reversed background vocals by Jill Jones include the lines "Else would a maiden blush bepaint my cheek / For that which thou hast heard me speak tonight", taken from William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet (Act 2, Scene 2). This same recording was later used in Intermission.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

The vocal delivery is def. pure Prince. He had an inunciation style that's usually all over his male protege/songs-written-for's work. If it sounds like someone doing Prince karaoke it's usually a Prince song (Ready for the World notwithstanding).

oh you guys are making me excited biggrin

something like this would be on a new expanded edition of Purple Rain in the future,
so there's a good chance we might get to hear it in the next few years dancing jig

I think the Originals set messed that up for us. They keep withholding vocal demos from the deluxe sets and then someone'll be like "oh, the estate is waiting for Originals 2".

Prove me wrong, estate. And give us the Prince vocal of "Nasty Girl". It would be cutting edge with the modern youf.
