Bono on Prince

https://rollingstoneindia...-regarded/

Bono: "It’s interesting for novelists or poets or filmmakers, being over 40 is never a problem. But for musicians, it seems more difficult. We listen to one of the greatest artists in the world, Prince for example. I’m trying to remember a lot of songs in the last 20 years of his life and can’t remember as many. You’re look at the biggest Prince fan that there is. But some artists have disproven this — artists like Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, you know…"

Is there a Prince mention in his memior?

We're clearly not looking at the biggest Prince fan if you checked out in the 90s.

say what you want about bono but he at least tried to actually change something he believed in.

not in the most tasteful way but he really talked the talk and walked the walk, easy as it is to criticise him.

i doubt hes that big of a prince fan though if he stopped listening in the early 00s but then i also doubt he is alone in that.

there are many prince fans who prob cant remember the recent songs that well.

anyway, early u2 was incredible.

i also cant tell you any of their recent songs, but i stopped listening in the early 00s or so.

CynicKill

You get older and you don't pay attention as much.

And once you reach a certain point in your career you can't even pay to get radio play, so your songs have a much harder time getting to those ears.

.
Must it immediately become a race issue? Would you have reacted the same if it was a Black artist who made the same statement?
I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

this quote isnt even new (its 3 years old) so idk why its come up now.

http://www.alternativenation.net/bono-makes-terrible-prince-death-revelation/

bono fanboy'd out about prince before too.

https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/u2-frontman-bono-writes-letter-to-prince/

but its obvious he tuned out some time ago.

its like no longer listening to bowie after 81 or 82.

or knowing nothing about george clinton after the mid 80s (i do like some of cinderella theory though).

or iggy pop after 1980.

or james brown after idk, the late 70s or so.

etc etc

he loved the peak, but when there was a drop, he just left.

which is flaky for a supposed mega fan, but actually prince could be one of the most critical (or mocking, at least) of other artists so hey, it all evens out.

Don't know and don't care what anyone's race is here, like they shouldn't care to try and manipulate my language on the topic. Bono is a lame and corny white boy and I ain't changing on it. Only lame and corny white boys will take issue with that statement.

"white boy" is considered a racial epithet now? Do you all write angry letters when Wild Cherry plays in the background of a TV show?

This is why nobody takes "white" cries of racism seriously, btw. Clutching pearls like it's the "white" N-word. Play that funky music, melanin-deficient gentlemen.

Notice who brought it up? The same one who started a war on transgenderism here when Vagina was released. He's a total clown and riled up the other Wonder breads.

How? You're virtue signaling too? Poor wittle white children on this forum struggling with their identities.

im not white.

the meaning of white boy, like most casually patronising terms, depends on how its used.

Prince fans that hate

there's a serious lack of 'Galore' in your 'Love'

what's in a name anyway

If the quote is accurate . . . Bono is not wrong.

Prince didn't have any/many hits after the 90s, not to the degree of the hits from the 80s.

U2 was kinda always my "2nd favorite band" (after Prince), and they've trailed off since around 2000 too. They had a brief comeback with the album All That You Can't Leave Behind, and have been trying to stay relevant since while churning out adult-contemporary music.

I think that was Bono trying to sound humble (which he is not) by using a quote that applies to him as well, but using someone else as the focus. He could have just as easily have said "Man, it's rough staying relevant and creating hits after 40".
