Ed Sheeran and Katie Perry could just be that they were the pop artists being pushed at the time.

Yet he loved Dua Lipa and Rita Ora.

When did he meet or say anything about Dua? Her first album came out a year after he passed! I quite like her music, so interested in anything Prince might have had to say about her.

Because they were hot and semi-popular. No other reason.

The Flaming Lips made two records that are as good as anything Prince ever produced.

Prince: “Why do we need to hear another cover of a song someone else did? Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what’s already there.”

Me: "Wait. Why do YOU get to cover songs you didn't write?"

Prince: "The rules don't apply to strong spirits."

Me: "Eat a dick, asshole."

I was about to say didn't HE do covers?

Also I think it's bad form for other artists to personally criticize other artists. I believe he is even quoted as saying so himself.

Then again I am older now.

He contradicted himself with like every opinion he ever stated, not just the covers thing. "Real music by real musicians" by the guy who broke down the door for fake drum machine / fake synthesizer tracks changing the paradigm of pop & R&B, etc.

The covers thing, though, that would've been so badass if he was the one guy to never cover because he had so much original material to spare, but... guess not. Literally his derision of the concept applies most to himself, where he usually walked the walk re: "new foundation".

Hold the phone, Two? This is a controversial take and I used to plop around with them indie ploppers and the "scene"s twee "quirky" albums back in the day.

Them other 50 Flaming Lips albums are worse than "Purple & Gold" though, be fair. Prince shoulda told Wayne to get his shinebox and get back in his hampster ball.
