The Undertaker - "Scottie, shake something"

At the start of the song The Undertaker, Prince says, "Scottie, shake something."

I'd always assumed he was talking to front-of-the-house engineer Scottie Baldwin . . . and I'd assumed Scottie was there, rather than a studio engineer, because Prince, Micheal and Sonny were recording it live-to-tape . . . and by "shake something", Prince was asking Scottie to turn up a fader.

Howver, I just noticed PrinceVault lists Scottie Baldwin as contributing percussion on that song. That surpsied me.

Obviously it makes sense to tell a percussionist to "shake something" (so it totally fits), but I didn't realize Scottie performed on any songs. I've heard a few interview with him and don't recall him every bringing up the fact that he'd contributed musically to a recording. Also, the percussion is pretty sparse on that song, so I'd assumed it was all Micheal.

PV mods are stoned sometimes and let some edits fly that never should.

Your assumption about the fader is probably true since it's said moments before the bass and drums kick in.

Scottie was at the boards, Prince told Scottie to shake one of the shakers/maracas that were there.

I believe Scottie told the story during one of his interviews.
