I dig the fade in/fade out effect too...and the Kiss sample

The fade in/out, like Poundcake mentioned, is cool just cuz it's a different thing. He's done it before but it's different and sort of signifies where the narrative of the song ends (with the siren noise that doesn't fade back in). The bass line is worth the price of admission, let's be honest. If that isn't the fiercest way to open the song.... You can hear his fingers popping against those strings. On top of the Kiss sample, I looooove that he incorporated the breaths from Sexy Dancer. I also dig when he referenced Sexuality in Rainbow Children so I just like his callbacks anyway.

On the leaked version of “Coco Boys” (the one with the scatting and without the crowd noise), there’s a really good fade out/fade in around the 4:50 mark - actually it’s more a false ending, re-start - I made that my ring tone (the fade/play back in). There may or may not be something coming!

Glad to see it getting some love. I will confess it's never been a song that's come into my mind to say "wow, I really need to listen to that." But whenever I end up finding it, it's better than I remember. I agree that HNRP2 is underrated even if it never really goes far enough to add up to something bigger.
There's a very good album to be made from the songs in 2010s, but it would take some serious work.

. - Yes, it´s one of my faves. Love listening to it with earphones, doing nothing else. Those arrangements and organic production are amazing. And some real good songs there too.

The Bob George-ish voice is the obvious one. It's like a younger distant cousin to Superfunkycalifragisexy to me. Not saying it's as good as it but I get that vibe from it..and Le Grind to a lesser extent.

Stare sounds very similar to We Gets Up, but is better produced. It's a good song, but not very original.

Stare is fantastic, really sparse and funky. One of my faves on the album.

Stare is a fat slice of nasty, nasty funk. And I definitely don't get the hate for The Gold Standard. Funky in a different way, with synth sounds that remind me of Vicki Waiting, and I agree about the previously mentioned Black Album vibes. Both AOA and HNR2 are fantastic listens. I think the last 10 years of his career are criminally underrated.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think the last 10 years of his career are criminally underrated. The last ten years: 2006 - 3121 2007 - Planet Earth 2009 - LotusFlower, MPLSound 2010 - 20TEN (2011 - Welcome 2 America) 2014 - Art Official Age, PlectrumElectrum 2015 - Hit N Run 1, Hit N Run 2 Bolded titles had major releases and/or promo events complete with television appearances, brand deals, and a major tour. Italicized had a brand deal but was only released in Europe. I don't think any of those albums are short on good reviews. Yes, the hardcore nerds here will have their bones to pick but such is the case with art. The last four, however, are a very different story. Perhaps it is not the last ten years that are criminally underrated and it is just those last couple years (a decade worth of music almost tbh). And of those last four, you typically get awful opinions of PE and HnR1 with good to great opinions on AOA and HNR2. Are they truly underrated? What makes them so? [Edited 10/12/22 8:14am]

Theyre only underrated as they have more or better gems than the other albums from this period but as albums you can play back to back? Aoa is the only one that works, and even then it has quite a bit of so so hum drum songs, its just that you can tell he was trying to make it good, whereas with most albums in the 00s/10s, he was just recording them quick and slinging them out there. With aoa he seemed to realise something had to change.

- Yes. It´s a ´cousin´ of We Gets Up. Not a great song, but the production is amazing (like HnR Phase Two album)
