Why D.M.S.R. is the greatest book written on Prince

This is why i think D.M.S.R. is the greastest book written on Prince:

1.This book focuses mostly on the music, which I think is the only thing real Prince fans really care about.

2.It gives limmited detail on Prince's personal life. It gives little relevant facts, nothing else.

3.It doesn't glorify Wendy & Lisa, as all of the other books on Prince do. Don't get me wrong, they did contribute to his music, but so did Andre Cymone, Sheila E., Dez, the list goes on.

4.It is very well researched. Per actually bothered to get the story from the horses mouth, so to speak. He didn't speculate, as once again, all of the other books do. Everything that is stated in that book is verrified.

5.This, in my opinion, is the only thing that really offers insight to the whole Revolution breakup. It doesn't tell you exactly what happened, but it does give some useful information to help draw a conclusion.

This, to me, is really the only book worth getting. This is the kind of book 1989-now needs.

I could agree more. Thanks for the intelligent insight from the perspective of a serious Prince MUSIC fan. I cited this thread in my Prince fans I can do without pt 5 thread. Thanks

It's a great book but a follow up needs 2 be written covering 88 to the present. It just annoys me that the book cuts off when it does almost dismissing Princes work after The Black Album. Am I the only person who wanted Per Nilsson 2 cover at least the period up 2 the (massively sucessful) Diamonds and Pearls tour?

Well,I guess I am NOT a REAL PRINCE FAN then, cause I am interested in reading things about his childhood and relationships that I didn't know about!!!
I guess someone who reads a BIOGRAPHY of Miles,or Jimi Hendrix,or John Lennon or Elvis or a thousand other musicians isn't a REAL FAN either.
Gimme a fuckin break, someone who has been in the business for more than 20 years should have real biographies out,not just books about the music, there's a human being behind the music that people might want to learn about.
And there's nothing wrong with that!!
I DON'T WANT TO BE NORMAL,because normal is part of the status quo, which I don't want to be a part of- Tori Amos

DMSR is the reason I am not even bothering with getting Possessed. It covered all the info I wanted to know about the music and I have absolutely no interest in the little guy's personal life. Its cool to hear from Susan Rogers how certain songs where recorded and inside info about unreleased tracks.

BUT I HAVE A QUESTION did Per ever write a sequel? I thought I remember seeing that he wrote Days of Wild...about the years after 1987, where DMSR ended. Is this true? Is it available? Did I dream this?

i don't know why everyone is slating Possesed. yes, it's a bit salacious (sp), but all the quotes from Alan Leeds and Susan Rogers are there - about what really went on in and out the studio.

i'm not saying book isn't without faults, (there are plenty) but it was hard to put down, and thats what makes a good book.

I agree, and Possessed is a great companion to DMSR, it fills in many of the blanks and finishes many of the sentences.

I re-read DMSR every now and then.A great book for me.I also likae Turn It Up,DOW,and Possesed.I want info from everywhere because somewhere in the middle is the whole truth.

It would really be great if Prince released another collection from the vault of things, with no remixes, and included a book with info on the recording situations.I mean good info and not one or two sentences.
