Would loved to have seen a Prince song woven throughout that movie. I wonder what song it was, what he wanted to replace it with, and why he didn't want Luhrman to have the original.

A new version of Love Thy Will B Done. Here's a clicky link to a different article, with the song mentioned. I did read elsewhere that the alternate song Prince worked on for this project was The Breakdown, but I don't have a link for that.

One day Rap might start being helpful instead of remaining willfully ignorant, posting unclickable links which help nobody. For some reason they deem it better for every single person reading their posts to have to copy and paste the link to have any clue what the article is about, instead of themselves adding url tags around the text, which takes approximately 2 seconds and would help the entire org. It's such a shame because I'm sure their linked articles are interesting and would promote discussion but they just continue to be the most annoying person posting links on the org. Just don't understand what they are trying to achieve.

Pretty underwhelming if he thought LTWBD or Breakdown was a good song for this soundtrack.

"Love, Thy Will Be Done" is one of the greatest songs he gave away, IMHO.

Also, IMHO, Martika's recording, although a CC, works much greater than Prince's original.

Now I'm overly curious as to how this "new" version sounded.

Other than that, "The Breakdown" could've worked with fireworks instead of lasers...

But what the fuck does either song have to do with TGG in any way, even sort of?

Baz luhrman often uses songs that are unrelated or dont fit

Eg using doja cat in the recent elvis film

Sure I guess. Isn't nirvana in a movie like that too. Idk it's weird for me.

And they still don't feel like the kind of songs appropriate for that movie or the aesthetic. I would expect something a little more fun. Like 319 or Endorphinmachine.

The new version probably had a Welton touch to it. wink

(Yeah, ... i'm mean).

wink

Agree. Martika's version is also imho better than Prince's

Nothing. It's part of the hideous trend of making historical material more "interesting" by adding anachronistic foofaraw.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Deliver me. I can't stand it.

Whatever new marvel movie had some guns n roses shit all throughout it and it took me out every time. It's a really terrible trend.

It's everywhere. Every time I watch Hidden Figures and that Pharrell Williams song comes on, I think, "The women's story isn't powerful enough? We have to have Pharrell jolting us out of it?" Hans Zimmer's score was beautiful and innovative - and I have nothing against Pharrell Williams. It just took me out of the story.

Like Prince took 6 months developing a song for a specific project 😂😂😂
He never took that long on a album before he was bored and moved on

This is like when Prince claimed he wrote In A Large Room with No light especially for his Montreux Jazz shows in 2009, just hype BS.

The Breakdown actually fits really well if listen to the lyrics and would flow instrumentally throughout the movie

I've never seen the film and I'm not a fan of Lana's music, but I know her vibe and sound. I also just looked up what her song is like and where it was used in the movie, and cross referenced it with The Breakdown. I too fully believe Breakdown would have fit well in the movie, were it used (and I think a really talented org memeber should edit the song into the film now)

eye dont think U heard me . . .
