I'm happy he took the top spot, but surprised he has only one album on the list. No SOTT? No Dirty Mind?

Agree! I also thought we might see 1999!

Huh? The one sexier person was Nikki.

& yeah, surprised that at least Sign didn't make the list, but at least it wasn't like the usual list, with Michael forever edging out our guy.

Michael Jackson is fading. Recent shows based on "his" music are titled "MJ". He forever tainted himself with his obvious activities with children.

I say "his" (quotes) because his music was created by committee. He played no instruments, got credited for things he didn't even contribute to.

He was basically a performer. There's nothing wrong with that but he's been over-rated for years.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

That's not true, that Michael didn't play or write. He didn't play or write nearly as well as Prince obviously but they both did some things better than the other.

Is this gonna be another mj vs. Prince bash?

If so, mj didn't do anything better than Prince, he just had a huge industry team.

Sure, but at most that means he was a better dancer / performer. He wasn't a better musican.

I think Michael is similar to Madonna in that they didn't play instruments (we can just forget about Madonna's efforts there), didn't direct their videos, but you know that nothing with their name on it was released without their full approval. They definitely had much say in shaping their art. I mean, you know Madonna had full control, and I don't think Michael was far behind her in that respect.

No, but he was very musical, with definite instincts. Especially when it came to beats. You've seen him beatbox, right?

I mean, Michael Jackson clearly danced better than Prince. He clearly knew how to market himself better than Prince. He had way better videos than Prince full stop.

There's a balance in all things in life. These two dudes were top of their game at what they did. There's room for both and nobody even needed to come out of pocket about MJ for any reason in this thread about Purple Rain being the best album of all time.

Please. Purple Rain isn't even Prince's greatest album.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

mj didn't do the splits.

Prince couldn't do the moonwalk cuz of the heels.

Other than that, for me, Prince had better spontaneous dance moves.

mj always did the same robotic choreography over and over till he forgot how to do it...

It's truly an exhausting conversation to have. Who cares? Like who you like for whatever reason you like them. We're all grown ass 40-60 year olds. Can we not do this?

I was very dissapointed/suprised to see that the Purple Yoda only had 1 album in the top 100. It's as if the writer thought because Prince was awarded first place that was reward enough or possibly he had never played Sign or 1999 on his turntable back in the day.
