you can kinda tell he wasnt as fussed about the makup of his bands, or at least thinking of them as thaaaat different after 2001 or so. it became a revolving door kind of setup like you get with a lot of older artists. the basic sound remained the same, the players just changed every so often.

but the answer to whats so special about the revolution could be summed up in how since 91, he had multiple bands that he all kept under the name of 'new power generation', but he only had one revolution.

The keyboard guy was Phillip Carreon (Phillip C), who was Prince’s hairstylist at the time, who was in it because Matt Fink was busy preparing the keyboard programming for the Nude tour (and may be didn’t fit into the ‘visuals’ for the film). https://www.ramoscarreons...p-carreon/

Prince told Fink there weren't really any lines for him in the film, and to rehearse the band for the pending tour.

The way they combined vocals, music, culture, experiences, made something better than the individual pieces. If you lived through the 80's, it was a great band, super fun, energetic, creative, unbound by sexuality, gender, religion, etc...

There is nothing special about the Revolution. It is your answer.

I never liked them much, but I have to admit that they were with Prince during some of his most brilliant albums (PR, ATWIAD, Parade). And Wendy and Lisa seemed to say ´no´ to Prince´s bad ideas.
