Take This Beat

Hello everyone, it's been a minute,

This was discussed back in '07 a little bit. I'd like to know if anyone has an idea if "Take This Beat" was recorded as a seperate studio demo or it was always intended as a continuation of I wish U heaven,

Many Thanks,

Edit: I just listened to I Wish U Heaven Parts 1 2 and 3 so I guess I answered my own dumb question. However I think it deserved to be a demo on its own.

it's said it was a demo that was later mixed into I Wish U Heaven, there was a aletrnate version going around that was described as a standalone track without the I Wish U Heaven chorus in it and more lyrics.

Thanks for that. I didn't know that a standalone demo had circulated.

Would love to hear how and if he changed a lot of it.

I always understood that it was a separate thing, then added to "I Wish U Heaven" later.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It seems elements were also used in "what's my name."

It seems, eh?

Could it be that the verses are nearly the same?

Just looooove that one note saxophone in it, as well as the synth bass line.

Never heard the circulating demo though...

LOVE this part of the song. The whole I Wish U Heaven is perfection.

I remember getting the 12" back in 88 and listened to IWUH once but then flipping it over and being obsessed with Scarlett Pussy lol for months.

Finally flipped the record over back to IWUH then became obssessed with that for next few months...esp Take This Beat! headbang

I also love IWUH 12”. I very often found these extended maxi cuts way more appealing than the original tracks they were supposedly derived from. The Scandalous Sex Suites was also brilliant but I never gave the original track much airtime. New power generation was another. Great memories of getting these home from the record store and being blown away for the first time.

I saw the Lovesexy Tour live in Philadelphia in 1988. My friend and I got there super early and snuck into a side door that was ajar to watch and listen to the band warming up. They played an incredible funky song that we'd never heard before. We both loved it. When we later talked about it, we referred to it as "the funky warm up music" . . .

Skip a head a few months when the I Wish U Heaven 12" was released. As soon as we heard it we both looked at each other and yelled: "It's the funky warm up music!!!" We were so happy to have not only identified it but to have a copy we could listen to.
