These discs contain some of my all time favorites:

  • All My Dreams
  • Strange Relationship (original version with sitar intro and Prince singing in his normal / non-Camille voice)
  • In a Large Room with No Light
  • The Ball
  • Adonis & Bathsheba
  • Coco Boys
  • A Place in Heaven (Lisa vocals)

However, you said you're specifically interested in dance songs. Besides Strange Relationship, I'm not sure that any of the songs I listed would be considered dance songs . . . Well, you could waltz to Adonis & Bathsheba.

From my point of view this Box set is the best thing ever released at this stage from Prince Musical legacy!

I dont know if anything on these discs deserves to take the place of anything on SOTT except maybe All My Dreams, but all these songs are pretty incredible. If you can imagine an alternate reality where the Purple One released all of these as little side projects under various names and groups, we'd put them as some of the best side projects he ever did, maybe THE best.

The most brilliant ones are All My Dreams, When the Dawn, and Wally. Crystal Ball is actually the best track of all but only in its full verison, and Crucial deserves to be on the highest tier, but I prefer the 1998 release. Colors and Visions I've played countless times, but they are not really Prince songs.

The Super Deluxe version is highly recommended. If you don't yet have it - grab it cool

And the outtake songs are really nice - what variety of styles...

Still, in my humble opinion, as good as the outtakes/vault songs are - nothing beats the original SOTT set - but man, it must have been difficult to choose an album sequence at this time, so prolific

I'm a life long fan and am well into the bootlegs but the level of greatness on SOTT's Vault disc blew me away-

All My Dreams

Big Tall Wall 1

Train

Eggplant

Adonis Bathsheba

Forever In My Life (early demo) - amazingly a diff song entirely...most days, I think this is better then the one we've had for 30 years...

Emotional Pump

Walk iN Glory

Wally

Promise 2 Be True

There's Something About

Rebirth of the Flesh

Large Room

Crucial

IN the list of superemely interesting would be -

Power Fantasic (take 1)

Cosmic Day

Big Tall Wall 2

Blanche

I Could Never

The Ball

Ballad of Dorothy with horns

Cosmic Day is the choice pick for me.

It actually exceeded my expectations. I loved the snippet and I used to dream of the day I got to hear the full song.

What a great day that was.

It's in my top 5 songs ever.

Oh, how can i forget Cosmic Day....it hated it when I'd heard snippets on bootlegs. I always wondered why people raved about it. However, once I digested the full version on the set, I was pretty much a fan. It is weird, odd and so damn Princish.
