After doing a little bit of research I discovered that Prince was horrifed at the color version.

I'm big on giving people options. To people saying "if you don't like the original being in B&W, don't watch it", I say: if you don't like the idea of a colour version, don't watch it (when it inevitably comes out). How about that? It doesn't matter what Prince wanted for the movie anymore. It's about the fans now.

I think the only thing we can hope for is if that color workprint leaks that is circulating among some of the achivists, but those color samples and alternate takes of the restaurant scene still haven't even leaked widely since they've been shared among a few.

Interesting. When were these color samples and alternate takes shared? Was it prior to his death or after? I ask because just after his passing, someone leaked the alternate opening of the movie. This was b&w workprint footage.
