Feel U Up (85’ Mix)

Only came across this today. It appears to have been done on 15 April 1985 at Sunset Sound, so around the period a lot of the Parade tracks were worked on. Would fit on a Parade deluxe, may be.

He's always clearly singing "Fill You Up".

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Wasn't one of the circulated mixes created, with creative liberties, from the multis by someone who had access to them (of many...) and that's why it sounds the way it does?

At least, that's what I heard some years ago. I don't know if Tudahl's book proved that incorrect or whatever.

Do you mean the version with just P and drums? Slight echo in the lead and background vocals?

I'll have to go back and listen... I think that's the one

If so, I didn't know that version was sourced from a multi. I always assumed it was done from some program.

The entry in Duane’s book for 15 April 1985 indicates a mix and an instrumental version of Feel U Up were done by Coke Johnson as a sort of audition before being taken on by Prince. Whether the version I heard (and which seems to be on a well known video sharing site) is the one done by Coke or is someone’s creative liberties version, I don’t know.

The mix that's been linked here with drums and Prince vox is the 1985 mix. Sourced from a cassette intended for either a friend or the WB vault. There's no multis for this song among collectors (at least not among any of the collectors that would let a mix of said multis leak)

usually known as "Leaped7689"

On Episode 135 of the Press Rewind – Prince Lyrics Podcast, Aisha Staggers & I talk about the lyrics to Prince’s sex-pest anthem, “Feel U Up.” This long-gestating track dates back to late 1981 and was intended for the abandoned 1986 Camille project before finally finding a home as the B-side to Batman’s “Partyman.”

May be an anthology of Prince’s “sex pest anthems” could be the next release, there’s quite a few.
