Toure - Who Is Prince podcast series----really quite good

Firstly, i don't like this toure guy. I found him to be presumptuous. He made a lot of assertions that I'm SURE he had no idea about in his book. Anyway, the man does have great access. I stumbled upon a podcast series called Who Is Prince that he put together. IN the 1st 2 episodes I've heard him talking to Alan Leeds, Mike Nelson, Brownmark, Wendy, Susan, Greg Boyer and others i'm forgetting. He crosses similar stories across time periods, Morris Day to Morris Hayes. He has done a stellar job on this.....

i'm only 1/2 way through but i am very very into this

Did I mention, Jill Jones confirming Prince doing the sax on G Spot?????????????????

Touré is definitely not a stupid guy. He's a Prince fan. I enjoyed the parts of his book that talked about the baby boomer generation's work ethic and how Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar Mellencamp, and Prince had that rust-belt, blue collar work ethic.

He also made a good point about Generation X and us being nihilists in a lot of regards; the first latch key generation that started to raise ourselves half the time.

He made a note how, because MJ, Madonna, & Prince were born late in their generation, that they had a firm foot in both worlds. They had the worth ethics and nose-to-the-grindstone mentality that boomers do/did. They also had the rebellious nature and forward thinking aesthetics that Generation X possessed.

However, in the latter third of his book he just rambled on about whatever. He got away from Prince, or even making a point about generational differences - and how each of those three artists were able to strike the vibrating fork of both generations - and just went on and on and on about ... well, something. I can't remember what. It was a fool's whistle at the end of a rather impressive moment literary opera.

I may take a listen to the podcast, especially if he has guests on from Prince's band(s), etc.

Thanks a lot for the info. I know Toure, but didn´t know he had a podcast. Searched for it and I will listen to the episodes.

Just a quick note: the name of the podcast is ´Who WAS Prince´ (but I could find it anyway on Spotify)

I just finished the series. Quite good. I think this is the first time I have heard Prince’s passing discussed this openly. Very very good.

It is quite a good listen.

In episode 5 Morris Hayes talks about trashing stuff with the boss....

I am glad I didn't lent them my inherited instrument... confused.

that opening anecdote about playing basketball went on far too long, but it does get good as it goes on. he puts prince writing slave on his cheek and his power play using that word in the right context.

will def check the second episode.

I loved it...he's right, how you play a sport really says something about a person....

So I just started and Toure got 2 basic facts WRONG! The Eric Clapton "ask Prince" thing never happened, and Prince was 19 years and 10 months when "For You" came out not 20.

how you do most things says something about a person.

why a relatively short game of basketball is so revealing im not so sure.

all the adjectives he used to describe prince the bball player, you could use the same words for prince the stage performer, pretty much.

I know about his childhood but hearing it in episode 3 does make you realise how sad it is.
