petty reasons you dislike super deluxe editions

mine are :

1) too expensive

2) i dont need to rebuy the whole album just to get bonus material - cant i just get the vault stuff on its own?

3) i hate extraneous essays, not least from a comedian like dave chappelle (who i love as a comedian btw)

4) i just dont like the cover shot they used for the SOTT deluxe. it should have been something more enigmatic. the original cover shot was meant to not show prince in the middle of the frame like most of his album covers. yet there he is in the middle of the frame on the deluxe packaging. id have preferred something like the stage backdrop, with no prince on there at all.

5) they could select better live shows to include.

Couldn't think of any reasons. I've loved all 2.5.

The only "petty" reason is #4.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

1. None of them have been truly comprehensive so far, whether for arbitrary reasons or certain songs being tied to other labels or copyright holders. It would be nice if each SDE had all the essential vault tracks that people associate with their respective albums

2. They're coming out too infrequently. It has been nearly 2 years since the last one and we haven't even had any kind of official confirmation of what's coming out next....

Odd choices... They kept off songs from 1999 because he used a word... But on SOTT they included a song with an even worst word

No "la la la he he hee" alt vocals....

No full length "crystal ball"

People are naming some legit frustrations.

The feeling of how much of the good vault material we had already heard and how few surprises there are.

The lack of knowledge around a lot of tracks.

Ommissions so they could release 7" versions.

They never really committed to a format. Are we linking material by project, or era it was recorded?

For petty....I think it's seeing fans start treaing mediocre vault curiosities like they're his best work and definitive Prince songs, then overlook other gems.

Was it Udo (?) who got upset that the SOTT box wouldn’t fit on his shelf? That, right there, still makes me smile as an odd reason to dislike something.
There may or may not be something coming!

i mean, i love the 1999 SDE packaging. that was totally in line with the original artwork. (i do not own it however, as i just cant bring myself to spend that much, but i know many people did, and will. i work full time so i prob could find the money, but i know the other things i would also like to/need to buy and cant justify £100-200 on one set)

the SOTT one just had far too many rejected photos, and the inner sleeves just had random shots of random reels, which made me think they just stuffed everything they could find in there to pad it out.

the 1999 one had 4-5 short essays which was perfect.

Prince live and album are different worlds.

I feel that the live stuff audio and/or video should be more accessible than hidden in the most deluxe box.

The Syracuse release is a nice start but also still bulks up and is known stuff.

just access to the dvds/videos would be nice like the newyear87, 1999 tour and w2a

The only thing i really dislike about SDE sets is that they've released TOO FEW of them so far.

The random release dates. 1999 & SOTT were both great, but Purple Rain didn't match the quality of those 2. There are still classic albums that need the SDE treatment (Parade, ATWIAD, Dirty Mind), but we're not sure if we will ever see them.

i think its not a question whether these albums will get the SDE treatment, they def will, but it will prob take years, as the estate are not really going to release more than one a year.

Would anyone like for the SDE to also include music videos that were released to promote the album? Restores and, if posssible, upscaled?

I apprciate disc space is finite, so I wouldn't want these if it meant ditching audio tracks, but it they could find a way to include them I wouldn't mind.

I realize the Estate posts many of them on the official YouTube channel, but most of them are terrible quality and haven't been restored. Plus, I'd like to actual own a copy. (I know there are ways to rip from YouTube, but the audio is only 128kbps). iTunes has some of the videos, but they have DRM . . . and their collection, which is almost exclusive to the '80s, has been reduced.

If we're really gonna get petty, I wish all the sets had a common size, shape, and style to them... to look like a proper series, you know what I mean? I don't even care which format (1999 was cool, SOTT is also cool), just pick one and stick with it. Putting these releases together looks like a ridiculous hodgepodge! lol

[EDIT: I'm talking about cd here, you vinyl folks won't be feeling my pain on this one.]

Petty complaint for all SDE releases- the inclusion of pointless 7” radio single versions when more unreleased songs could’ve been released.

Purple Rain SDE- including an unfinished version of The Dance Electric. Not including the 1983 1st Ave Concert DVD

1999 SDE- not including Lust U Always, Extra Loveable and Jerk Out because of “language people may not be able to handle”.

SOTT SDE- not including the uncut version of Joy in Repetition and missing the full length versions of Crystal Ball and Crucial.

I know the first two songs mention rape, but what supposedly objectionalble language is in Jerk Out?

Prince’s original version of Jerk Out includes the following

I took her to my crib and I tied her up. I figured that's what she liked.
Maybe I was wrong but what the hell, it didn't matter to me. She was white.
I said "How come people in your neighborhood, don't like it when a brother's rich?
Ain't my blood the same color as yours? Answer that question, bitch!"

It just pisses you off to see me drivin' that fancy car, don't it?
Bet you'd rather see me drivin' one of those ester grate ones.
Like the one your daddy drives, wouldn't you?
Let me tell you one thing. That's dead!
About as dead as you'll be if you don't rearrange your brain.
Catch my drift? Turn it up!

Niko Bolas' mixing decisions and quality control not picking up on them.

Although I don't really think this is a petty reason.

One thing to remember is some songs that are circulation may not be in the vault. Some may be lost.
