It's what people who claim they are in the know say. That would explain why WB opted to not release D&P or Parade last year. That would explain why Sony re-released Syracuse. But sstill doesn't explain why they didn't release Originals 2, or Camille, or even the NPGMC albums, etc.

Well I guess it's a claim. We just never know. It doesn't make sense to me for the copyright holder, the Estate, to be told what to do by the licensee, Netflix. We don't even have any updates on the Netflix doc. We don't even know if it's a feature doc or a doc series.

If the licensing agreement given to Netflix gave them exclusive rights to release any and all video, that would give them veto power over the Estate. In other words, the licensing fee Netflix is paying the Estate could entitle them to be the sole distributor of video. If the Estate released video on its own, it woud be in breach of contract.

Of course it would be crazy is the Estate agreed to any such provision granting Netflix the sole ability to release videos as part of the licensing agreement, so I'm skepticl about this claim. However, the Estate has made some bone headed business decisions, so it's possible.

I understand how it works. I was just saying it doesn't make sense for the copyright holder to not have any control over the material because the licensee says so. And also, no one actually knows.

Yes, if the licenseing agreement said Netflix gets a first pass at footage, that wouldn't mean no one else could release it. But that's not what we were talking about.

Someone suggested that the licensing agreement might have gone further than merely granting them a first pass and actually granted them exclusive rights. I doubt that's true, but hypothetically, if it were true, I was explaining how that would work.

Again, there was no video on the Originals project.
Only sone music videos, but Holy Rock was animated.
I wished they would have done more like that.

And, once again, that doesn't explain why Sony doesn't release the catalogue they bought on CD/vinyl.
