"Prince Rogers Nelson Way" street renaming

"On June 7, Minneapolis will unveil a commemorative street sign that honors Prince. 1st Avenue North between 7th and 8th Streets, the block next to the legendary @FirstAvenue club that Prince made world famous, will now be known as Prince Rogers Nelson Way."

They really aren't renaming a street.

They're putting up one cheap little sign designating a one-block strip, unofficially.

After the many millions he paid in state income taxes, that's the best they can do there? The legislature even refused to chip in $250,000 for the mural that's being painted right now.

Oh, I see.
English is not my native language - I overlooked the important word "commemorative".

So everyone who pays in miillions of dollars in income taxes should have a street named after them or murals painted? Glenn Taylor has paid way more than Prince and the Target Center is directly across the street. Perhaps it should be Glenn Taylor Avenue smile

Quit playing. Everybody had to Google Glenn Taylor to even know what the hell you are talking about.
For anyone upset that only a one-block strip in front of the First Avenue is being named 'Prince Rogers Nelson Way" have several motherfucking seats because EVERYBODY that's ever been on Prince.org knows good and damn well that Prince just loved having his own WAY! So let's just enjoy and celebrate it for what it is...in His honor.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Semi-literate writer at that. When you see "someone that showed us" rather than "someone WHO showed us...", you wonder how legit the source is.

Actually, it goes deeper for me and it should for everyone else. Why?
Because those two cheap little signs, designating a one-block strip, are the only things that have been funded by the public in honor of him. Oh, there's been some proclamations and that honorary doctorate -- but that mural could have been underway before he died.
But it was not.
Why?
Because the MN Legislature refused to kick in $250,000 to help fund it. Instead, it took seven years to raise the $500,000 needed.

But hey. He got two street signs and a few pieces of paper after he died.
