Wendy & Lisa talked about this on the Purple Rain bluray extras. She mentioned how Prince had very basic chords, but she put in other notes, changing the chords a tad (Bb to Bbsus7 or whatever), and bloomed them a bit.

WHen I've played "Purple Rain" on the piano, I've always basically played a Gm7 with a Bb bass (which is still a Bb chord), then a Gm7 chord, then an F(add G), then Eb(add F).

That G and F is just about in every chord.

I don't know how "basic" Journey's chords are in "Faithfully" but I bet W&L could've added some flair to that song as well.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Yeah kinda surprised me too. I wonder if it was acquired after 2016.

yeah me too.
I would kill for that guitar. I've never seen that version of it before.
Would be great if they could do a perfect replica (startocaster bridge and proper tele headstock)

Nice video, thanks for the tip!
.
As for the guitar, I'm a bit confused since the logo on the headstock ("Hohner professional") looks more like it is from the 80s. However, there is not the addition "The Prinz" which Hohner added after the success of the Purple Rain movie. The pickguards look like the old Matcat, but could they be replacements? Btw, I own a Hohner professional The Prinz with a tele style headstock (not the later headstock variation that was done for legal reasons) from around 1986, which looks a lot like the one Wendy is playing in the video.

I'm glad she mentioned the Rickenbacher (sp). I knew one was stolen, but had no idea she had two and both were stolen. That sucks!

Man, it'd be a trip to get those back after all this time.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

The piano playing of the song from the movie is magical. Should make anyone not a Prince fan think twice.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

- Yes. One of the things I like most about Prince is how he did most of his work by his own mind, without the aid of producers and such, but, in this case, credit must be given to Wendy. She created such a beautiful intro with those open note chords

Of all Prince's students, there's still some magic there that you don't get from the others. There's a certain character to how she plays that is so Prince like. It's sad they didn't get a chance to really come together again.

Are you asking me if I own keyboards? Yes.

My favorite hybrid is a full-sized Roland electric piano from the late 80s.

These are pretty much the chords that Wendy plays in the video, except that she doesn't seem to fret the note "a" on the g-string in the Fsus2 chords (she appears to dampens that string).

I find that Fsus2 chord rather difficult to play, instead I play:
