He said feminine, not female. Boys do come in feminine types. Just look at Prince.

This is me agreeing with you and adding to the conversation, FYI. lol lol

I sorta think, before it was a word, Prince's Camille and similar was genderqueer or genderfuck. Non-binary, like myself, for sure.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think you're right. Prince seemed to be obsessed with genderqueer and proto-trans concepts way before it was even talked about on tv or elsewhere. Look at "Vagina" too. And I think songs like "Head" matter in the conversation as well because nobody says eating pussy is giving head. That's always been distinctly a thing you do on men, even if it was occasionally used otherwise.

And, to add to your point, he did embrace that Gemini side, and talked to Oprah about both sides of himself. So clearly, that manifest in various ways over the years. "Vagina" is such a good example, too. But there are also other moments like "Have you ever wanted to play with someone so much, boy or girl...", or "if I gave you diamonds and pearls, would u b a happy boy or a girl," (appealing to either gender, again).

Also, he was doing feminine voices before Camille, because who's voice was it on "If A Girl Answers, Don't Hang Up?" It was him. And frankly, it was more Prince than female.

I, too, was also sorta questioning his choice of the word "head" for eating pussy. Was it always called that? "I gave her head last night." Was that a thing? If it was, I never heard it. Head seems to relate directly to the head of the penis. But, on the other hand, a bathroom on a ship is called a head. Why? Because on olden days ships the toilet was at the - wait for it - head (or front) of the ship. Folks were "going to the head" of the ship to piss or shit. So - head being "on the front" could be where he used that.

Or he just took an oral sex term in general and switched it up. Or maybe, he suc.... nah.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

LoL yes, the term "head" can and has been used as a term for oral sex for both men and women.

Also, I always thought that the "boy or a girl" line in Diamonds & Pearls was Prince talking to his future children. Maybe due to a bunch of kids appearing in the video. Either way, I don't think Prince was alluding to being bisexual or anything. But that's just my interpretation.

Don't forget that he also said "my claim to fame is scandal" so I have a feeling that a lot of his lyrics were designed to create conversations like these amongst his fanbase so in that regard, mission accomplished lol

Right, but the phrase is clearly almost always referring to a blowjob not eating a girl out. Sort of like the phrase "having sex" almost always refers to penetrative sex but can also be used for non penetrative sex.

I'm pretty sure Prince knew he was being cheeky with the phrase and that may have impacted why he stopped playing it live by the end of the 80s.

Well we can agree to disagree on that but one listen to the song will tell you that he's clearly addressing a woman in the lyrics. So regardless of whether or not you personally have heard or used the phrase "head" when referring to a blowjob instead of eating a girl out, Prince is talking about a woman giving him a blowjob in the first chorus and him eating a her out in the second.

babysitters

cant wait to see this released.

and am curious to see if it ends up being released in a plain sleeve or if they go with the illustrations.

i think jack will do it right, in a way that most people wont fault, as he is quite thorough and meticulous that way. though, make no mistake, this will be an estate release, ie overseen by them, not totally controlled by third man exclusively. hopefully though as its just a single disc issue, and not a big box set, there is less potential for fans to gripe about anything.

i love jack, or at least i loved the white stripes. still like hearing what he has to say, but his music has become way too overstuffed and maximal since he went solo, and i think its too easy for him now to not really try very hard. maybe as he has a big subscriber base, not sure, but hes not been very exciting for a while. i will check out the new one at some point.

Right. And it's the reason that I've never seen any "genderqueer" meaning in that particular song.

I do believe that a lot of earlier Prince stuff was for the purpose of finding the edge and seeing how close he could get to it, as he admitted on Arsenio. He was thinking with his dick, and his dick made him millions and a household name.

But as he got more confident in himself as a person and musician, and realized he could shelter himself from negativity or whatever, then he started to open up the generqueer stuff more. The constant boy and girl references are in plethora. Even in "I Would Die 4 U," it was, "I'm not a woman, I'm not a man, I am something that you'll never understand."

He really played with BDSM and lesbianism here and there, too, and not just "Bambi."

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

And here I was thinking we, as Prince fans, were just having a civil conversation about Prince's music. But it seems that having a difference of opinion on here won't get you any meaningful conversation. Instead, all you get is smartarse comments like that.

I can’t remember who said it (Brownmark or Dez) but he said that, when they performed “Jack U Off” on the Controversy tour,he just mouthed the words but didn’t actually sing it.He felt that Prince didn’t really understand that the phrase “Jack u off “ (mainly) refers to man-to-man masturbation and that it was kinda unusual the way Prince was using it.

I think that,in those days,Prince was really bold and daring. He wanted the controversy. He didn’t care if people wondered about his sexuality.

Dez said he mouthed the words to the sexually explicit songs as a "balm" to his conscience after he became a born again Christian and was uncomfortable performing that material. Brownmark said the song "Jack U Off" threw him for a loop because "guys don't jack girls off, at least where I come from."
Addressing some of the other topics, I've always heard "giving head" being used as the act of oral sex itself. Even in high school in the late 90s, girls would say things like "I got some amazing head over the weekend" or guys saying "she gave me head in the movie theater". I've never heard it referring to only fellatio. Even in 70s/80s porn it was used the same way.
As far as Diamonds and Pearls "happy boy or a girl" is concerned, I've always felt that the song is not to be looked at in the context of a romantic love, but a brotherly love. He was speaking to the world as far as making it a better place. Basically if he could give everyone Diamonds and Pearls or whatever their hearts desired, he would if it meant more peace, love, and harmony in the world. But since he can't, love (in the biblical Love Thy Neighbor context) and brotherhood is the best he could do and if we all extend love to one another, we'd all be better off. It's something that's freely given and costs us nothing. That's always been my interpretation of it.

Believe it or not, the internet is rife with conflicting opinions on whether "head" is referring to men or women or both. And even among mysterious etymology, it's not so black and white as some folks on here seem to think.

And as an aside, I don't think I've ever heard a friend utter a sentence like "I just got some amazing head last night." I grew up in a fairly macho area and women were always way more humble about their sexual experiences. Even still, I think it would've been more likely for me to hear a woman say "this guy ate me out" or "went down on me" before referring to it as head.

Enjoy Japan. I really enjoyed it.

It is an unusual country that is difficult to read at first, but try to share some alcohol with the locals, and everything will come loose.

Nature is stunning, cities can be ugly, but their inheritance and parks are so beautiful.

You basically won't find much beaches with people taking a swim, you'll see. wink

Both north and south island are so different but both beautiful. try to visit the isle of Okinawa.

You will have to deal with a collective society rather than the individual society we're use to.

Oh, and keep your tattoos nicely hidden (in the beginning).

And never be loud. wink

And listen to the electronic bird sounds which are different in every Shinkansen railway station. (It's for the blind people I heard).

I went to Tokyo on my honeymoon so I kind of have an idea of what to expect. But those are some good tips!

Luckily, I don't have any tattoos so I should be alright as far as that's concerned. My husband has four but they're small. Just dates, really.

I can be quite loud though. I don't really have an "inside voice".

But anyway, I'm very mindful of the fact that I seem to be monopolizing this thread and derailing it quite substantially. I really do appreciate everyone's kind words and if anyone wants to hit me up with an orgnote of any suggestions or advice on moving to a new country, I'd be more than happy to receive.
