Ultimate Come & Gold articles now updated on Prince Vs. WB-blog In the past month, the Prince Vs. WB blog featuring the updated and revised editions of the legendary Ultimate Come and Gold articles originally published on Prince.org as well as other chapters covering the 1993-1998 era of all things has been thoroughly revised again.
Besides linking to all the YouTube videoes from this era, there is now a wealth of pictures! The Prince Vs. WB blog is strictly non-profit and no copyright infringements are intended - only to have it appear as much as a time-capsule as possible - like a historical document for those who can't get enough of this great era in Prince history.
If you haven't read the blog recently, there is now major changes like a track list for the April 1994 Come album configuration! And a Gold album tracklist said to have been from February 1994 has been revealed to actually be a combination of a Come single and The Vault Volume I resulting in major changes for the Gold chapter - including a previously believed April 1994 configuration being moved to January 1994.
Also, the chapter about Chaos And Disorder has been thoroughly reworked because it was revealed that the 1996 album evolved from a The Vault Volume II collection from October 1994.
And these are just the major updates!
VaultCurator and TheSilentMikey were instrumental in bringing this major overhaul of Prince Vs. WB: The Fans Lost about so it now presents the most accurate information possible about this era. If you haven't read it in a while, give it a go and see what's new!

And of course, if you have any corrections or anything to add, feel free to get in touch.

Best Scifi 1 May 2022 These articles in my opinion are the best on this whole forum, ever. Cheers for updating

Agreed.
These articles are amazing.
Thanks to all involved.

The only thing I don't care for on these articles is the editorializing. "This music wasn't good" type commentary. Says who?

Exactly my thoughts! I only mention it because I really think the whole trove of info is incredible. I just find myself taken out of it and wanting to argue at points - who says this is "strong" or "weak" material? When we present our opinions alongside facts but don't distinguish the two it becomes really muddy.

I could do without the pontificating and editorializing. Lots of missing context.

Wow. Long but great read. A few comments: * -I was in college in DC during this period and remember being very disallusioned as a Prince fan- wasn't feeling the Beautiful Girl single, Come, C&D, or Gold. All of the albums underwhelmed me and I wasn't aware of the bootleg culture so this is my 1st hearing of "superior" Come and Gold configurations. * -Don't know how it was everywhere else, but I remember the songs Beautiful Girl, Love Sign, and I Hate You as being big hits in the DC area back then. The only bright spot for me during this time was Exodus.

I think the most obvious lack on the blog is a link to the Peach music video on YouTube, but unfortunately it's nowhere to be found there. Maybe the Estate is saving it for it's 30th anniversary next year? And they really oughtta make some kind of Come/Gold era Super Deluxe release for 2024 - the 30th anniversary. Someone please tell Michael Howe to get right on it as soon as he's done with the Parade Super Deluxe Edition which I'm sure he's busy wrapping up now. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

True. It's basically always irrelvant to state if music is good or not. An interestingly argued study could possibly help, but still the beauty of a song belongs to everyone's ears and brain, and best cannot be judged here on .ORG. You can always agree to disagree not liking a song personally at best. - Love the article by the way. Lot's of info i did not know. An era i did not care much about. Makes me wanna jump into it again, and relisten to it all. Thank you ! [Edited 5/9/22 23:26pm] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. I just added mention of the summer 1994 Come single b/w Endorphin Machine and Hide The Bone having a "live" (in the studio) feel to coincide with the summer 1994 Love Experience tour. Now, imagine the kind of tour The Love Experience could have been if Warner Bros had released the March 1994 Come and Gold Experience albums simultaneously as per 's wish and put money in him touring in support of the releases. A large scale world tour featuring The NPG augmented by The NPG Hornz and the ErotiCity dancers complementing Mayte in choreographies by Jamie King? Loved this write-up. I wonder what made him fall out with the NPG all of a sudden? Pure speculation, but I wonder if he felt they let him down not having ‘star power’ to propel his post-WB status to the level he had come to expect.

This is not a popular opinion,but....I think Prince should have only submitted the Gold Experience album to Warners and that album should have been released in the summer of 1994.Forget about Come. imagine TGE being released in the summer of 1994,only a few months after its first single (TMBGITW) became a big hit.And remember,at that point, the album still had great tracks like "Ripopgodazippa" and "Days Of Wild".He could have added "Love Sign",too.1994 would have been a really impressive year for Prince!
Instead,he released a low-key album (Come) that went nowhere and was quickly forgotten

I agree. I think I also say that in the Come chapter - that he should have skipped Come (and let it become mythical like The Black Album) and release The Gold Experience instead. But he wanted to give WB music from The Vault = Come and by the time The Gold Experience got released, it was from The Vault too. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Indeed! And he could have went on tour throughout the summer/fall of 1994,calling it the "Days Of Wild" world tour! That album would have been the major hit that it deserved to be.

Loose! was a huge dance hit in summer/fall 1994, at least in the Detroit area. We would hear that pretty much every time we went out. Of course NIN's "Closer" was the much bigger club song at that time.

After updating the Prince Vs. WB blog, I did some extensive work on the corresponding part of the Chronological Prince Recordings Index, making corrections and adjustments, reshuffling some entries, adding a few overlooked variant versions and deleting a few too. You can catch up on all of it in the comments underneath the 1993-2000 chapter which is right here: https://chronologicalprincerecordingsindex.blogspot.com/2020/11/chronological-prince-recordings-from.html
So if you copied it to Word or something, now might be the time to do it again.
Have fun. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!
