Can't wait until that whole hissy, whispering-words-as-if-it-is-singing fad is behind us and people start singing again.

Rather like big band versions of classic pop songs this is part of that incredibly lazy genere. Frankly does my head in, lazy assed drippy stripped down, accoustic versions of classics sold as something new & original..FUCK OFF ! ...see these MFs busking these songs on the sub-ways all the time.
Sory, I just needed to get that offa my chest.

What I don't get at all is the widespead bitterness that permeates this site most of the times.
If one doesn't like this particular rendition is cool and should express his/her opinion freely, of course. At the end, this song is 'just' a stripped-down version of the original, sung (at least for me) with genuine passion by a young artist, a tribute to the person whom we love or, at least, admire, since we are all here mainly for this purpose; does it offend you?
What is not cool is the aggressiveness, the sapience and the sense of moral superiority that spread around here often, very often. And make this place miserable sometimes.

Why should anyone be offended?? Why should anyone care if someone is offended?? That whole weirdness of people restraining themsleves just becasue they are afraid to maybe offend someone should go away too. I remember people used to have a spine and could take other opinions than there own without being so over sensitive and actually have a conversation instead of claiming to be offended by sometging they don't agree with and shut any discussion down.
Just neglect it, it's not your problem to solve. There are enough more happier topics on here just stick to those if you feel offended by the more 'negative' topics.

Well, I like it. It proves another thing; that melody is still so underrated. It's just one of those superb Prince songs. And it will always be. She made it sound really nice and contemporary. Nothing more nothing less. Stripped down or not. "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

It's about as far from passion, as that other relentlessly emphasized "quality" so pervasive to recent popular music (and pop imagery): "authenticity". There is nothing genuine or authentic about hopping onto a global bandwagon and not adding even an iota of anything that hasn't been expressed before. We've all been hypnotized to aspire to the same, hypnotized to keep our dangerous or "offensive" thoughts to ourselves, and lastly, hypnotized to believe that in doing so, we are actually being authentic, unique, human. It's mindfuckery imposed on us, that very few manage to unravel - once you do however, you spot it everywhere: in TV commercials, in the news, in politics, in education... Supposedly this world boasts 7 billion people - yet all the near-unlimited creative potential & diversity of human expression boils down to 6 or 7 popular variables. Like robots, we've been programmed to deceive ourselves, to not be able to recognize fakery masquearding as "genuine passion". Idiotic. [Edited 4/2/22 2:19am]

Honestly I've been here since back when it was an e-mail mailing list thing and it's always been like this. It's one of the most aggressive fandom groups I've ever been a part of. The hate towards other artists expressing their love for Prince borders on zealotry a lot of the time.

First, I've expressed a personal opinion about a performance, not something objective, but since you do not agree, I must be "hypnotized" 'cause I'm not able to "recognize fakery" at the point of being "idiotic". Very mature, Indeed. Second, it's just a song, you don't have to act like one of the few enlighted humans with the truth in you pocket. You don't know my tastes, you don't know my thoughts, you don't know me at all. But your tastes, your thoughts stand above the others'people, right? Peace, though. It's what we're here for, and not the war. [Edited 4/3/22 10:06am] [Edited 4/3/22 10:07am]
