Maybe, just maybe, the Prince estate is acting like a good bookpublisher from back in the day - have some big selling thrillers cross-subsidizing the more obscure poetry releases. So for every Purple Rain era release we get some SDE from another era... lol

But that's not true. We're not getting a SDE from another era for every Purple Rain era release. If we were, I think more of us would be satisfied.

So far we've only had two (1999 & SOTT).

Amazon is showing a 16-page booklet for the vinyl and a 24-page booklet for the cd version. Does anybody know what the difference is or is it a misprint?

The size of the format maybe has something to do with it?

Any chance of mods renaming this thread to reflect the news about this upcoming release and making it a news headline? Same thing for the Jack White Camille release. Seems like both are important pieces of news.

If you count the number of toes you’ve got, the fingers on one hand and both your thumbs, that’s sixteen. 24 is the number of digits someone from Deliverance has.
There may or may not be something coming!

I messaged the mods to make this a sticky but haven’t heard anything? Think they might have left the building, so anything goes.

More digits means a tighter grip on the pig.

It was stated as fact. Re-read the post I quoted. The person was defending the focus on the PR era by arguing that it it allows for a equal number of non-PR era SDEs.

I understand that post started with the phrase "Maybe, just maybe" but that phrase was qualifying the wisdom of this supposed fact, not the accuracy of the supposed fact. In other words, the post postulated that this approach is a fact, and maybe it's wise to take this approach.

So, like those without a stick up their ass, I've been watching "Let's Go Crazy" a lot.

I got to thinking about what Prince said.

In "Let's Go Crazy," the 93rd of 98 performances, was full of opening night exuberance, audience engagement, full on theatrics, costumes to the hilt, and lacking no energy. The concert is right at the tail end of the tour. They'd played endless dates in just six months. They slayed every night.

You would've never thought that this tour, to quote Prince, almost killed him. I know it was a bit of stretching on his part, but I think us fans understand what he meant. For a force of nature, so free flowing in the gift of music, to have to stay so regimented and on-script for so long, night after night, must have been a challenge of unknown consequences.

Yet watching that video, you would never know it. You would never know he had sung "Let's Go Crazy" 92 times before - at least - and did all the things we saw, and was sick and fucking tired of it. While he certainly had time to add accoutrements like "don't take my word for it, look over there!" it felt like it was the first time he said it. It felt inherently ad-libbed, off the cuff, and inspired in the moment. Yet, it wasn't. It was rehearsed. Probably wasn't the first time he did anything in that performance that he hadn't done 92 times before, or even a dozen times before.

It feels like once the beat kicked in, once the music truly started, he was a slave to it. It flowed through him, and he was just there. He was the flashlight, but the music was the power source. I watched "Purple Rain" from the tour this morning. I had the same inclinations.

The man, still in his twenties and sitting on top of the world, was a true professional and showman down to the last note.

Looking at it from that perspective, it makes even more sense why Around the World In A Day was the next record, and why it came out so quickly. He probably didn't tour for that - partly because of UTCM but also - because it was a shedding of skin, in a way. He evolved.

If you remember the movie Deadpool and how the main character was constantly put under extreme circumstances to try to have his body forced into mutating and it never did - until there was a fire and the factory burned to the ground. Yet Deadpool rose from the ashes, and had forever changed. That's really what the Purple Rain Tour was for Prince. That was his mutated moment. It forced him to grow musically, personally, spiritually, and so on. Not that he would've remained stagnant otherwise, but it did serve as a double upgrade to anything he ever did beyond that.

That alone is worth the price of admission.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I like what you thought about what Prince did as a professional performer.

But, that's why he stayed on top for so long, even after he thought he should have rid himself of some of his fanbase.

Even he couldn't dumb his own talent down!

Literally can't read any of that.

They should all be eye emojiis and the one at the very end is the symbol.

*edit*
Strangely they all appear correctly when composing the message or viewing the preview but disappear when actually posting.

But even if they appeared properly it's weird when people use the eye sign instead of the letter I. Just not needed.

Aparently Morris Day's complaint about the use of ''The Time'' is far more important than another Prince & The Revolution release to give this a sticky ?

It was supposed to be a WB release, and it was an SDE, not a reissue with nothing new in it.
