The sound is what kills me the most!! It is so loud and clangy, there is zero bottom in most of these shows it seems and that's weird because there is plenty bass all over the record. I feel like we've never gotten the actual Revolution sound in a live show before because it switched up the next tour to be a jazz review.

I hate it when there's no bottom.

I'm wondering what the point of putting footage recorded in SD onto a Blu-ray is. Have they invented a way to turn footage recorded on video into HD footage?

I agree, but i really enjoy the sound of the Benefit concert (1985.02.25) and the WDC version is one of the best.

from prince.com:

"For the first time, this powerful performance has been entirely enhanced and reconstructed: the original video source was rescanned, restored and color-corrected; and the original multitrack audio master reels have been remixed and remastered onto Blu-ray video with selectable stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos sound. Prince’s late-career and Grammy-nominated recording engineer, Chris James, remixed the recently discovered source audio, which had remained archived in Prince’s legendary Paisley Park vault for over three decades."

YES - I am a very happy camper right now. Looking at the remastered 2022 YouTube video made me feel like the 14 year old again who was rubbing his eyes past midnight watching this show on German television - this concert really got me hooked as Prince fan, it literally changed my life. And I guess there are many fellow orgers here who had the same experience. Let's face it, the Purple Rain era is when many of us became addicted.

And yes, I have this already - I taped it back in the day, bought the VHS, got it as a bootleg apparently ripped of a Japanes Laser Disc.. but so what, the quality of the video and sound was always mediocre.

And now this - the video looks awesome, the sound is great. Come on guys, what is there to complain? I will gladly place my order. AWESOME

In all honesty, I prefer this to some obscure 50 minute jam session type song discovered somewhere deep in the vault. But different strokes for different folks

Wow, I could hear horns at the end of Let's Go Crazy! I've never heard that before! Great audio clean up and the video looks pristine, I'm excited even though I feel like I've experienced this so many times before. Bring it on 😎✌️❤

They did a fantastic job tbh. I'm surprised as hell.

I still don't care for the show generally speaking but this will get me to watch and listen to it more.

I also preordered a couple of the new hoodies and a couple of the new shirts which are fire. They got me for my money again.

I packed up my PR SDE with the DVD so did anyone compare the Youtube LGC video to what's on that DVD? Is it better?

.

.

My main reason for buying this would be for the book. Wish they did that in the DVD/CD version. I don't need/want the vinyls. $100+ just to get the book? WTF.

.

.

.

Why do they never include Sheila E's opening set???? That would be a value add. And there are no official recordings of her Glamorous Life tour /PR opening set. That would be worth $150 for the set.

The Amazon UK page ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/...amp;sr=8-1 ) has the following CD/Blu-ray description:

“The new version of Prince and The Revolution: Live will be available on 2CDs plus the Blu-ray with a 24-page book with never-before-seen photos of the Purple Rain Tour and new liner notes.”
There may or may not be something coming!

I'm hoping this indicates that they're satisfied with this release and we can move on to something new-new. I would've loved to see them do something with the 83 PR debut show as well but I understand why it wouldn't be bundled with this, I guess.

I hope they just start doing tour retrospectives that have complete, unreleased shows.

What you're calling a "book thing" (see arrow)looks more like a gatefold or some kind of holder for the CDs. Unless the CDs come with that tiny booklet in yellow circle

Vs. the actual BOOKLET which is open and you can see it's middle spine in the picture for the LP/CD set.

They seem to be stuck on Purple Rain. For god's sake, move on and explore the other 38 years of his career. I understand that the casual fan may be more interested in that single album, but I'm not sure casual fans are buying any of this. Either way, there's money to be made off the hardcore fan if they'd just offer to sell us stuff.

It really is sobering to realize, after all of these years, that Prince was right when he called Purple Rain "the albatross around his neck." It's the singular thing that made him a true household name. And even though he never sold out, by riding that wave that PR created, that wave was strong af. It's still the only thing he did that is still resonates to the masses.
They're honestly not going to consider "the hardcore fan." There's no real money coming from "the hardcore fan."

Yeah, hopefully there will be a few more SDEs for us old freaks. But the money and courage to spend time on creating another valuable SDE (that we want) and that might gain some money depends on the will of the gods that don't excist. It's also likely to get harder given the rising prices of just about everything and everywhere in the world.
We'll see. After the brilliant release of the SOTT SDE, I have become quite pessimistic about something exciting new. And I notice that I am certainly not alone.

All very true and sad at the same time.
The masses only care about a very simplified and flat form of popular music, the kind of music that generates fast money.
These 'masses' only want to chant the Purple Rain end chorus, over and over again.
It's basically the only thing they know from our beloved Prince. Maybe they heard of 'Kiss' too.
Some youngsters I know (20+ yo) don't even know the song 'When Doves Cry'.
The money sharks know that they can milk the Purple Rain cow over and over for the sake of simplified cash.
I start to wonder why for fuck's sake any company wants to try and earn some money on a hard to assemble unreleased obscure
and especially unpopular sounding music by a dead artist for these masses.
He's gone already for 6 years and time goes fast, which is only enjoyed by a small group of (hardcore) fans.
In four years time a new generation of yougsters have no idea who Prince was.

Maybe, just maybe, the Prince estate is acting like a good bookpublisher from back in the day - have some big selling thrillers cross-subsidizing the more obscure poetry releases. So for every Purple Rain era release we get some SDE from another era... lol
