Beloved Houston Musician [Kellye Gray] Recorded a Prince Tribute Album Before She Died — And It’s Finally Finished https://www.houstoncitybo...llye-gray/ “Set for digital release on Feb. 22, which would have been [Kellye] Gray’s 68th birthday, Purple Gray will finally see the light of day.” “In 2018...Kellye Gray went into the EAR Studio in Austin to record Purple Gray: A Prince Offering, an entire album of songs by Prince, she did not know it would be her last project. In early December of that year, shortly after tracking eight of Prince’s songs, Gray was diagnosed with breast cancer, and a few weeks later, she was gone.” “With songs ranging from Prince’s biggest hits (“Kiss”) and deep cuts (“All The Critics Love U In New York”), Purple Gray is a both celebration of Gray’s artistry, and a heartfelt tribute to another musical genius who left this world too soon.” P.S. Mods, wasn’t sure which forum to post this, so feel free to move. There may or may not be something coming!

I like what she did, but its always hard to hear Prince songs withought him singing it. The album shows that Anotherlover is really a good song! so Underrated. A lot of times i feel covers miss the pump! If you know what i mean. Although I'm listening to the Beuatiful Ones now and she does do a good job!

Real cool! I always love when jazz musicians cover Prince, because I love jazz.

This is a really gorgeous album! Favourite tracks: All the Critics love U + Gotta broken heart again. Great voice, great style, great instrumentation. Wish she had recorded more uptempo songs, though...
